Man finds
3 intruders
in his home;
shots fired
A man went home Wednesday for lunch and found three intruders, one displaying a handgun, in his home in the 100 block of Tulane Street in Mar Mac, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported.
Rommie G. Carter said the suspects had pried open a door to get inside and then he struggled with one of the men. Another intruder told the man with a handgun, "Don't do it." Carter said he then saw the firearm and jumped across a hallway to safety.
The gunman fired two shots at Carter but missed, and the three suspects fled, the report said.
Numerous sheriff's deputies responded and in less than an hour arrested Deonte Marquel Artis, 18, of Quail Drive, Brian Omar White, 17, of Nancy Drive, Dudley, and Terrance Davis, 18, of Brady Place.
All three were charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, breaking and entering and larceny. Each was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $40,000 secured bond.
A weapon was recovered when the three were arrested at White's home on Nancy Drive.
"The apprehension resulted from a quick response by A-shift patrol deputies, civil division deputies and the investigation division," Capt. George Raecher said today.
Carter was treated in the Wayne Memorial Hospital emergency room for minor injuries and was released, a spokeswoman said.
Detective Sgt. Mike Kabler was assigned to the case.
Burglars take TV
and computer
A man heard intruders in his home before dawn today, and the two masked suspects stole a 52-inch television and a computer, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Walter Junior Thaggard, 28, told deputies he heard noises at 5:45 a.m. in his home in the 200 block of Dollard Town Road. He walked into the living room and saw two black men had forced open his front door. One suspect had a knife and told Thaggard he wanted everything in the home, the report said.
The suspects loaded the TV from the living room and computer from a back bedroom into a full-sized blue pickup truck and fled, the report said.
One suspect was described as being about 40 years old and 5-feet-10, and he wore blue jeans, a white shirt and a black and white bandanna. The other suspect was described as about 40 years old and 5 feet 5 inches tall, and he wore blue jeans, a white and black shirt and a red and black bandanna.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Someone got in a blue 2001 Ford F-150 truck at Ash Street Service Center at 3503 E. Ash St., rammed it through a fence and drove away, police said. The truck was valued at $1,500. Damage was estimated at $700.
*A thief cut a hole in a fence sometime Tuesday or Wednesday at Edwards Truck Service at 915 S. Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway and stole a red Big Max moped, police said. The moped was valued at $2,500. Damage was set at $300.
*A woman left the key in her unlocked 2004 Ford Explorer on Tuesday and returned Wednesday to find that the SUV had been stolen, police said. Joan R. Goulet of Lois Place said the vehicle was worth $26,000.
*Six drink machines at 213 N. George St. were vandalized sometime between Sunday and Wednesday and $504.80 was stolen, police said. Damage to the machines was put at $2,100.
*A computer set, a television, a microwave oven and an iron were stolen sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday from a home in the 300 block of Myers Avenue, police said. The resident, Yolanda Atkinson, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,850.
*A central air conditioner was stolen sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday from a rental home in the 800 block of North Center Street, police said. The thief also broke a window but could not get inside, the report said. The air conditioner was valued at $400. Damage was set at $200 at the home, owned by E.R. Monroe.
$2,000 stolen
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*About $2,000 was stolen sometime between Wednesday and dawn today from under a man's mattress in his home on Keith Lane, sheriff's deputies said. Baltazar Melendez said he got $12,000 for the sale of land on North Beston Road and put $2,000 under his mattress.
*At least eight bullets were fired into a Progress Energy distribution cabinet on Cobb Coley Lane between Sunday and Wednesday, deputies said. Damage was estimated at $5,000.
Collisions
Two drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $35,550 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $5,600 in a two-car collision at 8:55 p.m. Wednesday at Longleaf Avenue and Luther Drive, Goldsboro police said. One driver, William Tyrone Phillips, 21, of National Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Phillips was turning left from Luther Drive and his car collided with an eastbound auto. The other motorist was identified as Jamonte Henriquis Reed, 16, of Sandy Drive.
*A southbound driver was injured and damages were estimated at $7,100 in a two-car crash at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday on N.C. 111 near Spring Bank Road, the Highway Patrol said. Leshawnda Nicole McCullen, 21, of Durham Lake Road, Dudley, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. A driver leaving a restaurant parking lot, Jessica Renee Hough, 22, of Sandy Spring Drive, was charged with a yield violation.
*Damages were set at $14,500 in a three-vehicle collision at 6:38 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 70 near Bridgers Road, the Highway Patrol said. One eastbound driver, Roger Cleveland Potter, 56, of Willie Best Road, Mount Olive, was charged with failure to reduce speed. The report said traffic was slowing because of a vehicle making a right turn, and Potter could not stop in time and swerved to the left lane. Then the sport utility vehicle that Potter was driving, the report said, collided with a rental tractor-trailer truck in the left lane. The impact sent the big rig out of control into the right lane, where it collided with a pickup truck towing another vehicle. Derrick Lavon Brown, 34, of Kinston was driving the tractor-trailer, and Walter Steven Kirby, 64, of Kings Mountain was driving the pickup.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured in a one-car wreck at 11:40 p.m. Sunday on O'Berry Center Road near Hilltop Lane, the Highway Patrol said. Kenneth Abner Boyd of Neal Drive was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Boyd was charged with driving left of center. The report said the northbound auto ran off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned into a mailbox. Damages were put at $8,350.
Drug charge
A 21-year-old man from Seven Springs was arrested Wednesday by Goldsboro police in the 1100 block of Olivia Lane and charged with a felony drug offense.
Bennell Dawaine Garner of East Spring Street was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $3,000 secured bond.
