Man wanted for
failure to register
A 55-year-old man is wanted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and state authorities on a felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender.
West
George Washington West was described as white, 5-feet-5 and 140 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes and a mustache. He also was charged with vehicle larceny and misdemeanor larceny.
Anyone with information on West's location is asked to call Detective Sgt. Shawn Harris at 731-1483 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous and might be eligible for a cash reward.
Local man arrested
after police chase
Goldsboro police arrested a Wayne County man Tuesday after a high-speed chase and charged him with a felony traffic violation and numerous misdemeanors.
Police chased the man on Country Day Road, Patetown Road, New Hope Road, Wayne Memorial Drive and Stoney Creek Church Road before apprehending him at his home.
Aaron DuBois Best, 40, of Crosswinds Drive was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, two counts of reckless driving and speeding, and one count of driving while his license was revoked and resisting arrest.
Best was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 secured bond.
Truck spills fuel
A diesel fuel tank fell from a tractor-trailer truck today and about 50 gallons of fuel was spilled in a parking lot, Goldsboro Fire Department officials said.
The driver, Johnny Wayne Holder of Zebulon, was going south on Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 117 bypass, at about 6:10 a.m. Fire Lt. Frank Sasser said the strap that holds the tank broke. Holder, who was driving his own rig, managed to get off the road and stopped in the driveway of Culligan Water Service Co. at 1207 S. Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway.
Sasser said the Fire Department used an inflatable air bag to jack up the truck and then slid the tank out and cut off the fuel line. The fuel tank was placed on a rollback truck, and the big rig was towed to a truck repair service company.
Wayne County Emergency Service officials responded, and state Department of Transportation workers assisted in putting down sand to clean up the fuel spill.
Video poker thief
A thief entered through the roof of Manhattan Grocery at 901 S. Slocumb St. early Tuesday, pried open video poker machines and removed an unknown amount of cash, Goldsboro police reported. Damage to the two machines was estimated at $1,800.
Collision
Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 2:43 p.m. Tuesday on South Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 117 bypass, north of South George Street, Goldsboro police said.
The report said a driver, Robert Hancock Leight, 51, of Steele Street, Mount Olive, was crossing the southbound lanes and his truck collided with a southbound minivan. Leight was charged with a safe-movement violation.
The other motorist, Coy Andrew West, 39, of Selma, was driving a minivan for G&W Equipment Co. of Charlotte.
Two charged with
felony drug offenses
Two men were arrested Tuesday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony drug offenses.
*William Earl King, 18, of Whitley Street was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and resisting arrest. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $6,000 secured bond.
*Ivan Harvey Jr., 21, of Birddog Lane, Dudley, was charged with possession of drugs in a prison. A secured bond for Harvey, who being held in Wayne Correctional Institution, was set at $10,000.
16-year-old missing
A 16-year-old boy was reported missing Tuesday by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Scott Michael Nielsen of 2688 Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville, was described as white, 5-feet-10 and 160 pounds with black hair, blue eyes and tattoos on his arms.
When he was seen last at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, Nielsen was wearing blue-jean shorts, a red T-shirt and a white tank top. Any with information on his location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
