Seventy local piano students evaluated

Seventy piano pupils from the Goldsboro District participated in the National Fraternity of Student Musicians, sponsored by the National Guild of Piano Teachers, Teacher Division of the American College of Musicians, of which their teachers are members.
Adjudicator, Mrs. Ouida Thomas of Granada, Miss., evaluated the students. Throughout the United States and abroad, over 100,000 students participate in the annual National Piano Playing Auditions, which are held in over 880 music centers. Each entrant is given a certificate, a gold, silver or bronze embossed pin, a report card and a year's membership in the National Fraternity of Student Musicians. In addition, some students will earn medals, the Padweriski Pin and diplomas.
Established in 1929 by Dr. Irl Allison, the first Auditions were held at Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas. The national headquarters is maintained in Austin, Texas.

Students of Roselyn Edwards -- National: Casey Best; and, District: Courtney Howell, Patrick Howell, Rachel Phillips and Nicole Costen.
Students of Beverly Justice Sager -- National: Catherine Fairchild, Sally Rouse, Jessica Seymour, Daniel Sullivan, Joel Sullivan, Martha Summerlin, and Kirsten Walters; and, District: Kesley Fleming, Cullen Grantham, Hannah Grantham, Mollianne Kennedy, Matthew Rouse and Kara Waters.
Students of Bill and Bess-Edwards Sawyer -- District: Sara Boltinhouse, Danielle Gentry, Kerri Lynn Hesko, Alexander Khan, Ethel Morgan, Nathan Tubb and Nolan Tubb. State Program: David Hopkins and Jeremy Willman. National Program: Maggie Banks, Jessica Best, Samuel Best, LeAnne Brozovsky, Nathan Brozovsky, Victor Brozovsky, Amy Clarke, Andrew Clarke, Miriam Clarke, Sarah Crawford, Leslie Crawford, Molly Glover, Rob Hankins, Grace Hooks, Sang Woo Kim, Kristen Larson, Elizabeth Leever, John Mitchell, Lisa Peacock, Molly Peacock, Sarah Beth Schupner, Zachary Tubb and Gina Wall. International Program: Hannah Glover, Andrew Harper, Katherine Laramee, Jessie Stewart, Kenan Stewart and Lindsey Whaley. And, Sonatina Medal: Judy Hatch.
Three students from the Goldsboro Center were awarded the National Guild High School Diploma in Music. They are David Sullivan, son of Mac and Gray Sullivan and the piano student of Beverly Justice Sager. He is a graduate of Sullivan Christian Academy and will attend the University of North Carolina in the fall to pursue a degree in pre-med.
Also, Amanda Jo Knutson, daughter of Dr. Tom and Cheryl Knutson and the piano student of Bess Edwards-Sawyer. She was the valedictorian of her senior class at Wayne Country Day School and will attend Duke University in the fall to study engineering.
And, Patricia Marie Owen, daughter of Douglas and Linda Owen and the piano student of Bess-Edwards Sawyer. She is an honor graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School and will attend East Carolina University on a merit scholarship to study education with a minor in music.
