The Wayne County Public Schools honored nearly 80 retiring employees last week.

The group included principals, assistant principals, teachers, and support staff.

Dr. Steven Taylor, schools superintendent, praised the retirees for their dedication and commitment to children, stressing the important role each played in making the school system run.

"Your actions, thoughts, and deeds have not gone unnoticed," he told the retirees.

"The children whose lives you've touched will appreciate what you have done for them for a lifetime. Thank you for a job well done."

Taylor encouraged retirees to continue contributing to the school system, giving several ways to do so: returning in full-, part-time, or in volunteer capacities.

Edward Cromartie, assistant superintendent for human resources, along with principals of each school, reflected on the accomplishments of their respective retirees before they were recognized individually.
