Campaign nets
556 violations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers found 556 violations during the last week of the three-week, statewide "Click It or Ticket" campaign to enforce use of seat belts and child-safety seats.
Goldsboro police held 71 checkpoints, Mount Olive police six, Fremont five, Pikeville four and Walnut Creek three. Officers charged 150 people with seat-belt or child-restraint violations.
Six people were charged with driving while impaired, 113 with speeding, 53 with driving while their license was revoked, 214 with other traffic offenses, 11 with drug violations and nine with other criminal offenses. Four fugitives also were arrested.
Goldsboro police announced that the state Transportation Department will conduct a seat-belt usage survey in Wayne County until July 6. Police issued 259 seat-belt tickets in 2003 and 509 in 2004.
Maj. M.D. Hopper said North Carolina had led the nation in seat-belt usage until Georgia took over the position in 2004.
Body found
The body of an unidentified black man was found Monday in a vacant warehouse off South George Street, Goldsboro police reported.
A man working for a tree service in Warsaw told police that he had found the body at about noon while working near the building.
Police officials said today that they were following leads in an attempt to determine the man's identity.
Parole considered
The state Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission is considering parole for Harry Battle, who is serving 20 years to life in prison for armed robbery. Battle was convicted Sept. 17, 1981, in Wayne County Superior Court.
The state's current structured sentencing law eliminates parole for offenses committed after Sept. 30, 1994. But the commission has the responsibility of paroling offenders who were sentenced under previous guidelines.

Accidents
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $13,000 in two recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $6,500 in a three-vehicle collision at 6:45 p.m. Friday at U.S. 70 and N.C. 581, the Highway Patrol said. Michael Anthony Perry, 29, of Havelock was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. He was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other drivers were identified as Bowman James Nicholson, 17, of Raleigh and Michelle Leigh Wilson, 18, of Durham.
*Both drivers were injured and both cars were demolished in a wreck at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at N.C. 111 and Spring Bank Road, the Highway Patrol said. Jacqueline Paredes, 18, of N.C. 111 South, Seven Springs, and Essie Tatum, 49, of Poplar Street were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Paredes was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end wreck.
Theft
A DVD player and a satellite receiver were stolen between Sunday and Monday from the Tornado Bus Co. at 121 N. James St., according to a Goldsboro police report.
The thief had thrown a brick through a window to get inside, the report said. The stolen property was valued at $125. No damage estimate was listed.
Break-in charges
A 36-year-old man was arrested Saturday night by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with two felony offenses in connection to a residential break-in.
William Patrick Cotton of Lake Avenue, Dudley, was charged with breaking and entering and larceny and misdemeanor larceny. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of an $11,000 secured bond.
Drug charge
A teen-ager was arrested Sunday night by Goldsboro police and charged with a felony drug offense during a traffic checkpoint in the 3100 block of Central Heights Road.
Steven Terry Scott, 19, of Hull Road, LaGrange, was charged with possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released from custody on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
