WARSAW -- A fire Thursday night did heavy damage to the Taste of Country Restaurant on West N.C. 24.

Duplin Fire Marshal Jimmy Pate said trouble with deep fat fryer caused the fire, which extended into the ceiling. Firefighters knocked it down before it could reach the dining room, but he said it looks like the kitchen, roof and ceiling will have to be redone.

Six fire departments responded to the restaurant, which was featured last year in the N.C. State Magazine.

The fire started at 9 p.m., and a firefighter said it took them until 2 a.m. to put it out.
