Attempted murder
charge filed
A 23-year-old man from Dudley was arrested Tuesday by Goldsboro police and charged with attempted murder and a felony drug violation.
Dennis Cleveland Young of Athens Drive was arrested by a Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad officer in the 1100 block of Courtyard Circle and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana.
After a further investigation, Young was charged with the attempted murder of Renatta Lane on Feb. 3. Investigator Chad Calloway said Ms. Lane had reported that an unknown black man had knocked on her apartment door in the 900 block of Lincoln Drive, then came inside when a child answered the knock and assaulted the woman with an unknown sharp object. Ms. Lane was treated for her injuries and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Young was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $203,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for today to determine his legal representation.
Man robbed
A Goldsboro man says he was robbed Tuesday of $30 and two cell phones as he pumped gas on South Slocumb Street, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Marlon Lee Ford, 27, told police that a black man displayed a handgun at about 4:30 p.m. and demanded his money. The robber grabbed the cash and the phones, valued at $350, and fled.
The robber was described as being 6-feet-5 and 230 pounds with black hair in corn rows and brown eyes. He wore a white shirt and gray shorts.
Alarm foils theft
PRINCETON -- A burglar alarm foiled a break-in Saturday at Woodard's Drug Store in downtown Princeton, Police Chief Eddie Lewis said Monday.
The thief smashed a door glass, the chief said, and when the alarm sounded, he fled. A citizen saw the suspect and the getaway car and gave a possible description.
The glass was shattered but did not fall in, Lewis said. The owner, Carlyle Woodard, said nothing was stolen.
5 vehicles in wreck
No one was injured, but damages were estimated at $5,950 in five-vehicle accident Tuesday in the Pinewood Square parking lot on North Spence Avenue, Goldsboro police reported.
One driver, Mae D. Marks, 84, of Brewington Drive, Dudley, was charged with a safe-movement violation after the 1:53 p.m. wreck.
Police said another driver, Kathy Sillsbury, 47, of Clifton Ridge Drive, Pikeville, was making a left turn from the parking lot into the access road to the shopping center. Ms. Marks was making a right turn at about the same time from the parking lot into the access road, the report said, and thought that her sport utility vehicle was going to hit Ms. Sillsbury's van.
Ms. Marks made a sharp right turn, the report said, and her SUV ran over a traffic island and struck a tree and two parked cars. Ms. Marks car then ricocheted back across the access road, struck Ms. Sillsbury's van and a parked trailer in a parking lot on the other side.
The parked cars were registered to Donna Kaye Flow of Dory Circle, Dudley, and Gary Allen James of Pinkney Court, Fremont. The trailer was registered to Timothy Lee Grimes of Charles Street, LaGrange.
Meanwhile, damage was estimated at $5,000 in a one-vehicle wreck at 8:29 p.m. Tuesday on Salem Church Road near Fedelon Trail, Goldsboro police said. The sport utility vehicle ran off the right side and struck a culvert. The driver, Lori Watford Faust, 30, of Lane Tree Drive, was charged with driving while impaired.
Break-in reported
A 27-inch television and a compact disc player were stolen between Monday and Tuesday from a home in the 100 block of Annie's Avenue near Dudley, a Wayne County sheriff's deputy said.
The thief may have pried open a door to get inside, the report said. The resident, Ledell Watkins, put a $230 value on the stolen property.
Drug charge
A 39-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Tuesday by Goldsboro police and charged with a felony drug violation.
Kenneth Wooten, who did not disclose a home address, was charged with possession of cocaine in the 900 block of Olivia Lane. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond.
