Bloodmobile

The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at O'Berry Center. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash.

Wristband for blood

Wayne County people donating blood now through Sept. 5 will receive something extra for their effort.

In addition to the normal car wash coupons or Red Cross T-shirts, donors will also receive a red "Give Blood Give Life" wristband. On the front of the wristband is printed "Give Blood + Give Life." On the back is printed "American Red Cross."

Blood collection officials with the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross say that blood collections typically decline during the summer months as people head off on vacation and spend more time outdoors with family and friends.

So they want to reward those who do take the time to give blood with the wristband as an extra thank you.

Child safety event

The Safe Kids Coalition of Wayne County will hold a free children's safety event on Saturday in the Sears parking lot of Berkeley Mall from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

There will be a child passenger safety seat check, fingerprinting, a smoke house, fire truck, ambulance, a bike rodeo and prizes. There will also be information for parents on water and gun safety and information on drug prevention.

In case of rain, the event will not be held.
