The Board of Education approved an interim operating budget Monday night, allowing the school system to maintain its fiscal operation without interruption during the months of July, August, and September.
The $37.1 million budget figure represents one quarter of the 2004-2005 budget, said Nan Barwick, assistant superintendent for finance.
"It's the standard thing we do every year," she explained. "We do not have a state or local budget approved for this year, so this allows us to operate for the next few months."
In other business, the board voted to reappoint Dr. Michael Gooden as its representative on the Wayne Community College Board of Trustees.
Dates for the board to hold monthly meetings for 2005-2006 were also set, typically beginning at 4 p.m. in closed session, with public session starting around 5 p.m.
The dates will be July 11, August 1, Sept. 12, Oct. 3, Nov. 7, Dec. 5, 2005, with 2006 dates being Jan. 2, Feb. 6, March 6, April 3, May 1, and June 5.
