Flag ceremony
set for June 14
Don't throw away that faded flag.
Take it to a flag retirement ceremony at 5 p.m. on June 14 at the American Legion Post 11 on U.S. 117 South of Goldsboro.
Flags are not to be just thrown in the garbage, Ray Swinson said Monday during a Memorial Day ceremony. He is president of the Wayne County Veterans and Patriots Coalition, which sponsored the ceremony held at Wayne Community College.
He said the government has laid down a way to retire the flag.
"You retire it as a sign of respect in an official ceremony prescribed by law," he said. "This flag you've been flying at your house or at work, don't just throw it away. Bring it to the ceremony so we can retire it."
