Sen. Richard Burr will come to Goldsboro on Wednesday to learn more about the Reach Out and Read program.
Burr is expected to visit Carolina Adult and Pediatric Medicine around 12:30 p.m. to see the program in action. Reach Out and Read volunteers read aloud to children in the clinic waiting room, showing parents and children the pleasures and techniques of sharing books together.
The program, which is also done in other area pediatric offices, is sponsored by the Wayne County Public Library and Smart Start. The goal is to raise community awareness about the importance of reading to children right from the start.
