Wayne Community College campus to become summer camp

Wayne Community College's campus will become a summer camp for the 10th year this summer, as the college students' domain is taken over by rising eighth- and ninth-graders participating in Camp Exploration.
Camp Exploration is a week-long day camp, summer enrichment program set for June 6-10. The program combines fun with learning.
There are the typical games such as volleyball and softball, but there also are activities like a tour of a local industry, training sessions on various computer programs, an internet scavenger hunt and career exploration exercises.
Campers are divided into four "companies" that each design a logo, develop a pension plan, create a television commercial and conduct an environmental survey. The campers also develop Web pages, find the value of an annuity using graphic calculators, write for a business situation and create a PowerPoint presentation. Participants cap the week's activities with a presentation to potential "stock investors." The stock investors will be their family members.
The camp is fun for the college community, too, with almost every department getting involved in some way and staff and students helping out, too, WCC mathematics instructor Peggy Womble said. "It revitalizes us, keeping up the latest technology and working with younger students."
The camp will be held on the college's main campus in Goldsboro, June 6-9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on June 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The $45 per child fee covers all supplies, a daily snack and lunch and a camp T-shirt.
Enrollment is limited to 90 campers. Deadline to reserve a space is May 25.
