Duplin Relay for Life to aim for $108,000

KENANSVILLE -- Duplin Relay for Life volunteers have raised almost $60,000 toward a goal of $108,000.

The schedule for the upcoming Relay for Life this weekend at James Sprunt Community College is as follows:

The opening ceremony will be 7 p.m. Friday and followed by all night events such as the Best Food and the Best Decorated Camp Site Contests. Teams will stay all night on the college campus, chairman Kathie Creech said.

The event schedule includes:

FRIDAY

At 10:30 p.m., a professional clown will arrive.

At 11:15 p.m., the Gong Show will begin, with all 19 teams participating.

SATURDAY

At 2:15 a.m., the Most Team Spirit Award will be given.

At 2:45 a.m., participants will have the Craziest Hat Contest, followed by the Craziest Pajama Contest at 3:15.

At 5:30 a.m., there will be a Scavenger Hunt.

At 7:15, a volleyball tournament will begin.

At 7:30 a.m., the group will do stretch aerobics.

At 8 a.m., a donut eating contest is planned, followed by a talent show at 8:45.

At 10 a.m., a beach music party is planned, with shag lessons offered.

At noon, the closing ceremony will begin, and the final money totals will be announced.
