Center Street Jam

Rain, rain, go away, the Rickey Godfrey Band is ready to play.

Barring bad weather (again), the 2005 season of Center Street Jams will begin Thursday at the Waynesborough House parking lot. The concert will be 5:30-8 p.m.

Making its first appearance at the Jam, The Rickey Godfrey Band is one of the most popular beach music acts. In November, it was named "Group of the Year" at the Carolina Beach Music Awards Show in Myrtle Beach. "Can't Change My Heart" and "Soul Sensations" were named song and album of the year, respectively.

The concert is free. People may want to bring lawn chairs and/or dancing shoes. Concessions will include Pizza Inn, Nature's Finest Hot Dogs, barbecue from the Elks Lodge, and hamburgers and frozen drinks from Ham's Restaurant. Water, sodas and beer will also be available.

The next concert will be The Main Event on Thursday, June 2.

Bloodmobile

The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for city employees at the school bus maintenance complex on Clingman Street.

Head Start applications

Applications for enrollment in the Head Start, Early Head Start and More at Four programs will be held Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. at 505 E. Chestnut St.

Parents are asked to bring their child's birth certificate, immunization records, a currenty physical, insurance information and income verification. More information may be obtained by calling Verna Best at 734-1178, ext. 224.
