The Wayne County Services on Aging, WAGES, and the Goldsboro Parks and Recreation will celebrate Older American's Month with a Berkeley Mall Health Fair, a Senior Dance, a Senior Fitness Walk and Picnic in the Park to pay tribute to the older citizens in the area.

The Senior Health Fair will be held Wednesday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at Berkeley Mall. The following health screenings will be free to seniors age 60 and over: vision, cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure screenings. There will be a $5 charge for the screenings for anyone under the age of 60.

Dates for the other activities will be scheduled soon.

"Older Americans are now living longer, staying healthier than ever before, and are volunteering and contributing in various ways to our communities,' said Yvonne McLamb, director of the county's services on aging."In addition, older Americans now have vastly more choices than were once available if they get to the point of needing assistance. However, as mentioned by the U.S. Administration on Aging, living longer and healthier, and having choices, requires thoughtful choices and planning."
