Norwayne students raise $1,400 to fight Parkinson's

The P.E.P. Club at Norwayne Middle School raised more than $1,400 through a coin drive and the sale of bracelets to be donated to research into Parkinson's Disease.
April is Parkinson's Awareness Month. Dana Lewis, a teacher at Norwayne and one of the club's advisors, helped initiate the campaigns. Ms. Lewis's mother, Pat Darden, suffered from Parkinson's, which affects a person's nerve system. The disease normally occurs on people over the age of 50.
The money will be given to the Parkinson's Unity Walk, a non-profit organization that supports a variety of research foundations seeking a cure for the disease.
The bracelets, or power bands, were engraved with the words, "Cure Parkinson's.
