House fire
A fire sparked during a home repair project caused $15,000 in damages Saturday to a home at 514 Cardinal Drive. Goldsboro firefighters said plumbing work led to the fire at the home of Perry Shaw. Lt. Carlton Parks said most of the damage was confined to the attic. The house was valued at $75,000.
Investigations
Deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office are investigating these reports:
*Brittney Lynne Green of Radnys Drive, Princeton, said she was assaulted by a man at her home. She was advised to take out a warrant.
*Michael Patrick Nunn of Lucama said he was assaulted by a man on Moye Road near Fremont. He was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
*Robert Allen Govan Jr. said someone stole several ladders, a table saw and chain and lock from a construction site on High Woods Drive. The items were valued at $945.
*Dustie Elmore Price of LaGrange said someone desecrated a gravesite at Wayne Memorial Park. A damage estimate was not available.
*Kandie Delois Haywood of Tampa Street said a man attacked her while she was on Elm Street, choking her until she passed out.
*Jessica Leigh Jernigan of Almond Lane said she was assaulted at her home.
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Ethel Oates Simmons of North Jefferson Street said she and her son, a minor, were both assaulted by a man she knows.
*Dave Jarman of Tractor Supply said someone damaged a fence at the business on Cashwell Drive and stole two go-carts valued at $2,448.
*Tara Kelly Fenton said someone damaged her car while it was parked at 1002 N. Spence Ave. Damage was estimated at $900.
*Scotty Eugene Davis of Boyette Pond Road, Pikeville, said he was assaulted in the parking lot at 1002 N. Spence Ave.
*Deborah Ann Creech of Seven Springs said someone driving another vehicle rammed her car and threatened to kill her while she was driving on South Slocumb Street.
*Sylvester Mendoz Sierra, 27, said he was shot while walking near the intersection of Wilson and Calvary streets early Saturday. He said two men in a car pulled up beside him and the passenger got out and shot him before the pair drove off. A report on his condition was not available.
*Kalvin Dewayne Dudley said someone tried to break into his home on Juniper Street. He estimated damages at $400.
Bad checks surface
Officials with BB&T on E. Ash Street said three men tried to cash counterfeit checks there Friday.
The three men tried to cash Case Farms checks and while bank officials called the company to verify the checks, the men left.
Wayne County authorities have been investigating counterfeit payroll checks written on Case Farms. Investigators have said that dozens of counterfeit checks totaling more than $35,000 were cashed Thursday by a check-cashing service.
