Hotel property rezoning on City Council agenda

A Goldsboro businessman is making plans for the former Wayne Hotel property, which he could reveal to the City Council Monday night.
Chris Cox has requested that the hotel property, less than two acres at the southeast corner of Elizabeth Street and Marigold Street, be rezoned from residential to general business.
Cox has not requested a conditional-use permit, which would specify a use for the property. The new zoning would allow a variety of commercial and office uses, and the location will be close to the new U.S. 117 interchange.
However, part of the land is in the floodplain, so any new construction would have to have the finished floors two feet above flood level.
A public hearing will begin shortly after the council convenes at 7 p.m.
The council has five other hearings scheduled.
Clayton Homes has requested that a half-acre lot on Miller Street, between Meadow Street and Country Lane, be rezoned so that a mobile home could be placed there. The property has previously had a mobile home, which predated its zoning, but has been vacant for more than six months.
John Malpass wants a 0.8-acre lot at the southeast corner of Hines Drive and New Hope Road rezoned from residential-16 to residential-12. The new zoning would allow multi-family development.
Goldsboro Enrichment Center is asking that 3.5 acres on the west side of Slocumb Street, near Harrell Street, be rezoned as neighborhood business, which permits commercial establishments to serve nearby homes.
Patrick Chen is requesting a special-use permit for a half-acre lot at the northwest corner of North Wil-liam Street and Holly Street. It is currently a used car lot, but Chen wants to add a four-bay garage.
Finally, CDW Properties is asking the city to annex nearly 38 acres on Patetown Road, across from the intersection with Country Day Road.
Also Monday, the City Council is being asked to close sections of several downtown streets the morning of Saturday, May 28, for the annual parade held by Dillard/Goldsboro Alumni & Friends Inc.
Harvest Fellowship has asked for the section of Chestnut Street in front of Pedestrian Plaza to be closed Saturday, June 4, for the third annual Godz Fest.
Also, Mayor Al King will proclaim April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Monday in the council's chambers, Goldsboro City Hall, 214 N. Center St. It will be televised live on PACC-10 (Channel 10 on Time-Warner Cable).
