The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Wayne Community College. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash.
Working dogs memorial
Bikers will be raising money this weekend for a monument for military working dogs.
The "poker run" will begin at a parking lot on N.C. 55 near Seven Springs at 10 a.m. Saturday. The motorcycle riders will then go to five locations where they will receive playing cards.
They will reunite at the starting point by 3 p.m. to see who has been dealt the best hand.

The National War Dog Memorial Fund was created in 2001 to pay for a monument in Washington, D.C., to honor animals that have assisted the military during wartime. U.S. Rep. Walter B. Jones is working to find a location, but the construction costs must be raised through contributions.
