Drug charges
Two Goldsboro men were arrested Monday by Goldsboro Housing Authority police during a traffic checkpoint at West Holly Street and Astor Court and charged with felony drug offenses.
More than 14 grams of cocaine and $1,832 were seized.
Derris Jamar Oates, 24, of Dakota Avenue and Christopher Montreal Davis, 25, of Old Grantham Road were charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine.
Oates was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 secured bond. Davis was jailed in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Goldsboro police arrested two other men and charged them with drug violations.
*Chad Alan Bedford, 30, of Oak Circle Drive was charged today with felony possession of heroin and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed in lieu of a $3,000 secured bond.
*Kelly Shavon Garner, 18, of Running Deer Circle, Dudley, was charged Monday with misdemeanor possession of marijuana, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a concealed weapon. His secured bond was set at $5,000.
Robbery
A Goldsboro man was robbed before dawn today of his wallet that had $33 and personal papers, a Goldsboro police report said.
Timothy Lamont Durham, 48, told officers that the suspect tapped on his car window at about 12:05 a.m. in the parking lot at King's Convenient Mart at 2205 S. Slocumb St. The suspect then pulled out a handgun and demanded Durham's money.
Durham gave up the wallet, and the robber fled toward Seymour Johnson Homes, the report said.
The suspect was described as black, about 22 years old, 5-feet-5 and 120 pounds with a skinny build. He work a dark hat, dark jacket, white shirt and blue jeans.
Thefts
About $11,460 worth of property was stolen Monday from a home and a garage in the 100 block of Mills Loop Road, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
The resident, P.D. Hinson, reported the theft of a backhoe, a pig cooker, a stainless steel grill, a laptop computer, a tool chest with tools, a gas-powered post-hole digger, a digital camera, a tiller, an air compressor, a pressure washer, a combination television and video cassette recorder, a patio set and other property.
The thief had pried open doors to get inside, the report said.
Sheriff's deputies also are investigating these reports:
*A diamond wedding ring, a gold tennis bracelet, other jewelry and a purse with $20 and personal papers were stolen between Sunday and Monday from an unlocked pickup truck in the 100 block of Louise Circle, deputies said. The resident, P.S. Ackerly, put a $4,560 value on the stolen property.
*Video-game equipment and personal papers were stolen Monday after a window was broken at a home in the 100 block of Eagle Ridge Drive, deputies said. The property, owned by Steven Wayne Wiggins, was valued at $730. Damage was set at $200.
*Fifty DVDs were stolen Monday after a window was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Ruby Drive, deputies said. A resident, Angela Vaccaro, put a $500 value on the DVDs and set damage at $20. Another resident, Kris Caulfield, also reported the theft of personal papers and liquor, valued at $40.
*A Bolen riding lawn mower was stolen between March 28 and Monday from the 5700 block of N.C. 55 East, deputies said. The resident, M.L. Thompson, said the mower was worth $1,000.
*A 1993 Lexus was stolen between Friday and Monday from inside a fenced yard at Mitchell's Body Shop at 1296 N.C. 581 North, Pikeville, deputies said. The abandoned car, valued at $1,000, had been seized by Goldsboro police. The thief inflicted about $250 in damages to the fence to get the car.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck was stolen between Sunday and Monday at the Cherry Hospital Research Farm at 201 Stevens Mill Road, police said. Four trucks also were broken into and their radios stolen. The stolen truck was valued at $4,000, and the radios were worth $2,900, the report said.
*About $1,600 was stolen Monday from an unlocked car in the 500 block of Eastgate Drive, police said. The car owner, Viet Hoa Pham of Goldsboro, also reported the theft of a purse and a cell phone with a combined value of $350.
*An electric power chair, a lawn tractor and a push mower were stolen between Feb. 9 and Monday from a yard in Worrells Trailer Park in the 1300 block of North Berkeley Boulevard, police said. The owner, Betty Jane Crisp, who was moving, put a $7,990 value on the property.
*A satellite receiver and a video game cube were stolen between Thursday and Monday after a home was damaged in the 1100 block of Wayne Memorial Drive, police said. The resident, Harry Monk, estimated the value of his property at $300 and damage at $70.
Accidents
Five people were injured in two recent traffic accidents in Wayne County, according to Highway Patrol reports.
*Three people were injured in a two-car collision at 1:36 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 117 near Booker Street in Pikeville, troopers said. One driver, Derrick Richardson Wilson, 34, of West George Street, Warsaw, and the other motorist, Tonnie Lee Robinson, 46, and his passenger, Christine Robinson, 49, both of Perry Rivenbark Road, Warsaw, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Wilson was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were put at $2,200.
*Both drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $7,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 6:11 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 70 near Ebenezer Church Road, troopers said. Larenda Michelle Yancey, 36, of Canton and Jolene S. Smith, 63, of Gainesville, Ga., were listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Yancey was charged with reckless driving. Ms. Yancey said she had reached for candy, the sport utility vehicle ran off the right side, she overcorrected, the SUV then ran off the left side, crossed the median and collided with Ms. Smith's oncoming, eastbound car.
Fraud charge
A 41-year-old woman has been arrested by Goldsboro police and charged with felony financial identity fraud.
Tonia Susan Geigher of Mallard Lane, Pikeville, was accused of using another person's credit car number to rent rooms at a hotel where she works, Investigator Trey Ball said. Ms. Geigher was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond.
Dunked
doughnuts
A driver was turning "doughnuts" in the parking lot of the N.C. Wildlife boat ramp Saturday night when he lost control of his car and it slid into the Neuse River, the Highway Patrol said.
William Joseph Howard, 31, of Hanson Drive, Princeton, scrambled from his 2000 Chevrolet and got back to shore, the patrol reported. But the car sank into the river and could not be recovered.
Howard was neither hurt nor charged by Trooper J.S. Smith. The car was valued at $12,000.
Correction
A Wal-Mart employee, Doris Hutson, 71, of Pikeville, wants it known that her wallet was stolen Friday after she had finished working and while she was shopping at the store. A report in Sunday's News-Argus said the theft occurred soon after she had gone to work.
The wallet, valued at $30, contained about $20, credit cards and personal papers. She did not report the theft until Saturday, the police report said.
