Three hurt
in wrecks
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $25,100 in five recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $7,500 in a three-car collision at 3:12 p.m. Thursday at North Berkeley Boulevard and Parkway Drive, Goldsboro police said. Two drivers -- Edward Dennis Horne, 20, of White Oak Road and Timothy Gordon Shofner II, 18, of Peachtree Drive -- were charged with safe-movement violations. The report said Horne pulled from Parkway Drive and the car that he was driving collided with a southbound auto driven by Shofner in the left lane. The impact of the collision sent the car that Shofner was driving into a southbound car driven by Amber Dawn Patterson, 18, of Southern Pine Road.
*A car hit water on North Berkeley Boulevard near Bayleaf Drive at 6:32 a.m. Thursday, and the driver lost control of it, police said. The car ran off the right side and struck a power pole. The driver, Daniel Lee Steed, 18, of Wright Brothers Avenue, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Damage was put at $6,000 to the car.
*A driver was injured in a two-car crash at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Wayne Memorial Drive and the entrance to Britthaven, police said. Lorisse S. Wells, 51, of North Taylor Street was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other driver, Ryan Scott Lane, 27, of Purple Iris Drive, Pikeville, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Lane was leaving Britthaven and his car collided with Ms. Wells' southbound auto. Damages were set at $2,300.
*A driver was injured and her pickup truck was demolished in a wreck at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 18 on Dobbersville Road near King Road, the Highway Patrol said. Judy Page Jackson, 57, of Dallie Road, Faison, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. She also was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the pickup ran off the right side and struck a ditch. The truck was valued at $5,000.
*A man on a moped was injured in crash with a van at 2:05 p.m. Feb. 15 on U.S. 70 near Martin Road, the Highway Patrol said. Ladislaw Peter Jr., 31, of Third Street was released after emergency-room treatment. He also was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Peter had turned from the Scooters Unlimited driveway, then merged to the left lane and collided with an eastbound van, driven by Kenneth Graham Faucette, 57, of Charlie Braswell Road. Damages were set at $1,300.
Investigations
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating these reports:
*Natasha Shawell Matthews discovered Thursday evening that someone had kicked in a door at her home in the 100 block of Mint Hill Drive and stolen a box of checks, two bottles of perfume and a picture from her bedroom.
*William Brent Arbeau reported the theft Thursday of a Miller welder and a Craftsmen pressure washer, worth a combined $800, from his home in the 100 block of Comer Lumber Yard Road.
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A Dell laptop computer, a DVD player, a disc and a remote control were stolen Thursday after a window was damaged at an apartment in the 100 block of North Pineview Avenue, police said. The resident, Wilson Anyinyo, estimated the value of the stolen property at $2,069 and damage at $125.
*A compact disc player was stolen between Wednesday and Thursday after a window and the dashboard were damaged in a pickup truck in the 900 block of Fairview Circle, police said. The resident and owner, Michael Henry Herron, put a $129 value on the player and set damage at $300.
Mobile home fire
Children playing with matches on Wednesday night started a fire that destroyed a rental mobile home at 153 Legion Lake Drive, a fire official said Thursday.
The fire "set curtains on fire and they fell on a bed," Mar Mac Volunteer Fire Chief Bill Harrell said. The mother and both children escaped uninjured, but "they lost about everything," Harrell said. Their names were not immediately available.
Eighteen Mar Mac firefighters answered the 8:45 p.m. alarm . Dudley assisted with about 12 volunteers and three trucks. The value of the home also was not known.
Missing
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is trying to locate a Pikeville woman who disappeared Tuesday. Barbara Joy Akers, 46, of Falcon Drive, visited relatives Tuesday in Dunn but did not return home.
She is described as white, 5-feet-7 and 170 pounds with hazel eyes and shoulder-length blonde hair. She was driving a white, four-door 1995 Buick LeSabre. Anyone with information should call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
