Wayne County Reads program continues

Missing out on Wayne County Reads? It's not too late to join in.
The Wayne County Public Library is stocking "Big Fish" at its main library in Goldsboro and its branches. At week's end, a few copies were available.
But you don't need to have read the book to come out to the Wayne County Reads events, all of which are free and open to the public.
The series resumes at 7 p.m. Monday with "Legends of the Courthouse: Lawyer Tales" in the historic Courtroom 1 in the Wayne County Courthouse. Geoff Hulse will lead a group of local attorneys telling outrageous and true stories, including the origin of the bullethole in the glass behind the judge's bench in that courtroom.
The movie "Big Fish" will be shown at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday in the student activity center, located in the main building at Wayne Community College. The movie is free, but the college's drama club will be selling popcorn and soft drinks with proceeds going to benefit Stage Struck.
On Monday, March 7, Dr. Geoff Weiss of Mount Olive College will lead a discussion of the 2003 movie. He will show clips, discuss director Tim Burton's style, and talk about how the movie differs from the book. The talk begins at 7 p.m. in the Weil auditorium at the Wayne County Public Library, 1001 E. Ash St.
The Wayne County Reads campaign concludes with a storytelling festival, which will be held Saturday, March 12, at Wayne Community College. Four-time Grammy Award winner David Holt will lead a diverse group of storytellers who will begin performing at 10 a.m.
Following lunch, people can choose to attend workshops where they will learn storytelling techniques. Some will be chosen for public performances of their stories at 3 p.m.
People will be able to buy lunch catered by Wilber's Barbecue for $5 apiece; otherwise, the festival is free.

The participating organizations in Wayne County Reads are the Arts Council of Wayne County, the Foundation of Wayne Community College, Friends of Wayne County Public Library, Mount Olive College, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, StageStruck Young People's Own Theatre, Wayne Community College, Wayne County Public Library and Wayne County Public Schools.
