Rotary clubs to celebrate organization's centennial

Members of several area Rotary clubs will gather together Wednesday to celebrate the organization's 100th anniversary. The Goldsboro, Three Eagles, Mount Olive, Fremont and Snow Hill
clubs will hold a social at 6:30 p.m. at the Arts Council of Wayne County, located on Ash Street.
Richard Hunt, the assistant district governor for Rotary International, is ex-pected to attend.
Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards and help to build goodwill and peace.
Paul P. Harris formed the world's first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on Feb. 23, 1905. The name Rotary is derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among members' offices.
Today there are about 1.2 million Rotary club members of more than 30,000 Rotary clubs in 163 countries.
