SUV hits building
A car washer on Tuesday mistakenly pushed the gas pedal, instead of the brake, on a specially equipped car, resulting in about $18,000 in damages, a Goldsboro police report said.
The car struck a sport utility vehicle at 1:03 p.m. in the wash bay at Adam's Car Wash at 334 N. Spence Ave. and then pushed the SUV into the Blockbuster building next door.
The gas pedal was on the left of the brake pedal, the report said.
Damage was estimated at $5,000 to the car, driven by Barry Tyree Ingram, 46, of Nahunta Road, Pikeville, and registered to Gloria Starr Sauls of U.S. 13 North, and $3,000 to the SUV, registered to Kimberly Ann Browne of Lee Drive. Damage to the building was estimated at $10,000.
No charges were filed.
Meanwhile, a driver was injured and her car was destroyed in a wreck at 5:35 p.m. Monday on U.S. 117 near Robert Peel Avenue, the Highway Patrol said. Lagwen B. Johnson, 43, of Lucama was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Ms. Johnson was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The car was valued at $8,000. Damage was estimated at $1,000 to the property, owned by Elizabeth Yelmont of U.S. 117 North, Fremont.
Man stabbed
A Goldsboro man was stabbed before dawn today during an argument in the 1000 block of Courtyard Circle, Goldsboro police said.
Anthony P. Davis, 44, told police he was arguing at about midnight with his wife about being evicted. Then a black man interceded and stabbed Davis in the chest, police said. Davis could not describe the assailant, and the woman had fled, police said.
Davis was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was listed today in stable condition, a spokeswoman said.
Break-ins
About $4,114 worth of property was stolen between Monday and Tuesday from three mobile homes at Life Style Homes at 6051 U.S. 70 East, LaGrange, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
The thief had damaged three exterior doors to get inside, deputies said. Damage was estimated at $1,500.
Three end tables, three coffee tables, five lamps, 11 wall pictures, a breakfast bar with stools, two dinette sets, a baker's rack and free-standing shelves were stolen.
Another home was broken into between Saturday and Monday at Life Style Homes, and about $3,400 worth of property was stolen, deputies said. The stolen furniture included a dinette set, four end tables, two coffee tables and a sofa table. The thief had smashed a door to get inside.
Deputies also are investigating these reports:
*A man left the key in his unlocked car, and it was stolen between Monday and Tuesday from his home in the 1100 block of Stanley Chapel Church Road, deputies said. The owner, Rafael Vega Ponce, said his blue, two-door 1995 Geo Tracker was worth $2,000.
*An orange cement mixer was stolen between Sunday and Tuesday from a construction site on John Deere Drive, deputies said. The owner, Russell Edward Smith Jr. of Fremont, put a $1,500 value on the mixer.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Two gumball vending machines were stolen between Tuesday and dawn today after a window was smashed with a concrete block at Mary's Drive-In at 612 W. Ash St., police said. The machines were valued at $150. No damage estimate was listed.
*Six hog feeders were stolen between Jan. 25 and Tuesday from an unlocked fenced yard at G&M Sales at 103 Industry Court, police said. The hog feeders were valued at $1,584.
*Cleaning supplies were stolen between Monday and Tuesday after three windows were shattered in a home in the 700 block of North Leslie Street, police said. The resident, James Barkley Neese, put a $100 value on the supplies and set damage at $60.
Drug charges
A 29-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Tuesday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with drug violations. Robert Earl Tune of West Elm Street was charged with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of lottery tickets. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond.
Mobile home fire
A mobile home at 202 Hideaway Circle, Dudley, has been damaged in a "suspicious" fire, Wayne County authorities said Tuesday.
The resident, Ina Rae Grandy, told sheriff's deputies at the Dudley annex that the fire had started in a trash can and then spread to a riding lawn mower and aluminum siding. The fire occurred between Saturday and Tuesday. Damages were estimated at $2,008.
