Chase ends
in multiple
charges
An alleged drunk driver led Goldsboro police on a 20-minute chase Tuesday night after she allegedly damaged a car in a grocery parking lot.
Penny Gayle Jervis, 43, of 4th Street, Smithfield, faces multiple charges, including fleeing to avoid arrest, as a result of the chase, police report.
Around 10 p.m. Tuesday, a police officer saw a 1992 Ford back away from a West Grantham grocery store, up over a curb and atop two bushes. The car then went forward, swerved and struck a parked 1999 Chevrolet, causing $6,000 in damage.
The officer stopped the driver and took her license, but when another police officer arrived on the scene, the driver took off.
The two police cruisers pursued the Ford for 20 minutes before they could stop it with stop sticks, which flattened two of its four tires. The Ford had $2,000 in damage, but the driver was not injured.
Two traffic signs were damaged during the chase.
Ms. Jervis was charged with fleeing to elude arrest, careless and reckless driving, driving while impaired, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, failure to reduce speed, two counts of property damage and three counts of hit and run. She was placed in the Wayne County jail under $35,000 bond.
Accidents
Goldsboro police investigated a three-vehicle accident Tuesday morning on U.S. 70 East. Around 9:25 a.m., a 1996 Buick rear-ended a 2001 Mack truck and a 2000 Toyota that had stopped for traffic just east of the Wayne Memorial Drive overpass. Total damage to the vehicles was about $9,000.
The Buick's driver, Deborah Ann Pierce, 30, of Pikeville, was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment of reportedly minor injuries. She was charged with failure to reduce speed.
The N.C. Highway Patrol has investigated these accidents:
*Around 7 p.m. Sunday, Daniel Reyes Patino lost control of a 1995 Pontiac and ran off Roebuck Grant Road. The car hit a stump, turned on its side and hit a tree, sustaining $8,500 in damage. Patino, 17, of New Hope Road, LaGrange, was charged with exceeding a safe speed.
*Around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Chris Williams lost control of a 1997 Pontiac on Emmaus Church Road. The car ran off the road and rolled over once. Damage was estimated at $6,500. Williams, 27, of Zion Church Road, Mount Olive, was charged with speeding.
*Around 1:30 p.m. Friday, a 1997 Chevrolet allegedly ran the stoplight on U.S. 117 at O'Berry Road and struck a 1997 International truck. The truck had minor damage, but the Chevrolet had $8,000 in damage. David Bryan Barfield, 28, of N.C. 903, Seven Springs, was charged with a stoplight violation and an expired inspection sticker.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Joseph Artis reported the theft of a 1986 Isuzu Trooper from his driveway in the 2200 block of South Slocumb Street on Tuesday.
*The front window of Skill Creations, 1109 Royall Avenue, was broken late Monday or early Tuesday. Nothing was reported stolen.
*Employees of Adams Car Wash on Spence Avenue discovered a broken window Tuesday morning. Nothing was reported stolen.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating a breaking and entering Tuesday at a home in the 400 block of Genoa Road. The owner, Milton Masonal Wade, reported the theft of three DVD players, seven DVDs, stereo equipment, jewelry and coins, worth a combined $1,640.
Drug charges
Calls to Crime Stoppers led to two people being charged as drug dealers.
The Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad investigated a tip involving alleged illegal drug activity in the area of Olivia Lane and Poplar Street and charged Gerquon A. Brewington, 20, of Courtyard Apartments, with possession of cocaine with intent to sell and deliver. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail under $10,000 bond.
A separate investigation in the area of Wayne and John streets led to the arrest of William Glenn Knight, 23, of Virginia Street, with possession of cocaine with intent to sell and deliver. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail under $10,000 bond.
