Officer dragged after stop
A Goldsboro police officer had minor injuries after a traffic stop Friday afternoon. After stopping Marcus Derrell Whitfield around 2 p.m., Police Officer Dave Cloutier asked Whitfield to get out of the car, according to official reports. Instead, the report said, Whitfield put the car in drive and sped off. Some of the officer's clothing apparently was caught in the car, and the officer was dragged down the street as the car took off.
The officer was able to free himself and roll away from the car with minor injuries, although his uniform pants were torn.
Marcus Derrell Whitfield, 19, of Argo Street, was charged with speeding to elude police officers, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, and maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $25,000 bond.
Prescription fraud alleged
A Goldsboro woman has been charged with obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and forgery. According to the police report, Teresa L. Miller, 40, of Meadow Crest Drive, posed as a nurse from Dr. Hodges' office. She allegedly called in a prescription to Southeastern Family Pharmacy on Thursday, saying it was for Steve Miller. The pharmacy later called the doctor's office and learned that the doctor was out of town, and that no one in the office had called in the prescription. The report said that Ms. Miller came to the pharmacy the next day to pick up the drugs, and was arrested by police officers afterward.
She was charged and taken to the Wayne County Jail and placed under a $2,000 bond.
Pedestrian hit
A 39-year-old man was hit by a car as he crossed the street Friday morning, but the driver told police he didn't see the man until he hit him.
According to the report, Martin John Mangillo, 44, of Willow Springs was headed toward Worrell Street from Berkeley Boulevard in a 2001 Chevrolet. He told police the traffic light turned green and he began going, not seeing Scott J. Hall crossing the road. Hall was taken to the emergency room at Wayne Memorial Hospital, but his condition is not known.
Drug arrests
An investigation and search of a Beal Street house Thursday led to the arrest of Antonio F. Howell and Aquell D. Howell.
Antonio Howell, of Rosewood Avenue, was charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to sell and deliver, possession of marijuana and three orders for arrest. He is being held under a $4,000 bond.
Aquell Howell, of Carolina Street, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and an order for arrest. His bond is $500.
Man charged in Christmas burglary
Montrell Demontrio Allen, 30, of Georgia Avenue, was charged Friday in connection with a breaking and entering on Christmas Day.
The sheriff's office received a report on Dec. 25 saying that several firearms, a bulletproof vest and electronic equipment with a value of $5,521 had been stolen. Two days later, the same victim reported that their computer, worth $1,625, had also been stolen.
Allen was charged with second-degree burglary, felony larceny, felony possession of stolen property, breaking and entering, and larceny after breaking and entering. He was placed under a $20,000 bond.
Stolen car recovered
Christopher Williams Hicks, 17, of Dudley, has been charged with felony larceny and felony possession of stolen property in connection with a stolen vehicle. A 1994 Mercury Lincoln Town Car, valued at $5,500, was stolen Friday. The car has been recovered. Hicks was placed under $100,000 bond.
Arrest made in store robbery
Warren Baker Jr., 19, of Courtyard Circle, was charged with robbing the Pantry Store on New Hope Road. The robbery occurred in early December. Baker was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and placed under a $25,000 bond.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Stephen Milligan of Pinkney Church Road in Fremont reported a generator, worth $450, was stolen from a carport.
*Suggs Auto Sales of Pikeville reported a black Dodge Durango, worth $14,000, was stolen from a lot.
