Store robbed
Two armed men robbed a store Thursday night of an undetermined amount of money and fled, according to a Goldsboro police report.
The men, one armed with a rifle and the other with a handgun, entered the Dykes Beauty Supply store at 513 E. Ash St. at about 6:15 p.m. as a third suspect waited outside, the report said.
A store employee told police that the gunmen demanded money, grabbed it and fled north from the store.
One robber was described as black and 5-feet-6 with black hair and a light complexion. He wore a red T-shirt. The other suspects also were described only as being black.
The robbery was the second within six weeks at the store, police said.
Burglaries
Burglars broke into two homes Thursday night and stole a total of $1,400 and other property, Goldsboro police reported.
In the first burglary, a 79-year woman resident reported that she heard a loud crash at about 8:20 p.m. in her home in the 1500 block of Laurel Street. She confronted the man who pushed her down, then grabbed her purse with $400 and personal papers.
The burglar had inflicted about $30 in damages to a door to get inside, the report said.
The suspect was described as 6-feet with a skinny build. He wore dark pants, a dark shirt and a dark jacket.
In the second burglary, a 21-year-old woman resident told police that at about 11:30 p.m. a black man banged on the door of her home in the 1600 block of South Slocumb Street. Then the suspect kicked the door open, assaulted the woman, grabbed $1,000 and fled in a small brown car. Damage to the door was estimated at $50.
The robber was described as being about 21 years old, 5-feet-7 and 135 pounds with a skinny build, black hair and brown eyes. He wore a black shirt, blue pants and a red and white hat.
Break-in
Sixty-one music compact discs and about $100 were stolen between Wednesday night and Thursday morning from a bakery, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
A thief threw a rock through the front door in order to enter Panaderia Selena's Bakery at 6080 U.S. 70 East in LaGrange, and then damaged the cash register, the report said. The register was found in pieces about 100 yards from the store behind a storage barn. Only change had been left in the register, an employee said.
The compacts discs were valued at $578. Damage was estimated at $700 to the door and $630 to the register, deputies said.
Thefts
A gas-powered blower and a remote-control car were stolen between Monday and Thursday from a shed in the 800 block of East End Circle, Goldsboro police said. The thief had damaged a door to get inside. The resident, Quinton Shepherd, put a $195 value on the stolen property and set damage at $10.
Accidents
Damages were estimated at $18,000 in two recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*Damages were estimated at $9,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 10:05 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 70, west of N.C. 581, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Christopher Daniel Gurley, 17, of Riverbend Place, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other driver, Lori S. Bishop, 46, of Garner, had stopped because a school bus had stopped to drop off children.
*Damages were set at $8,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 117 near Robert Peel Avenue, the Highway Patrol said. A northbound driver, Zondra B. Rogers, 34, of Wilson, was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The trooper's report said the sport utility vehicle that she was driving had slid out of control on the icy road, crossed the center line and struck an oncoming, southbound car head-on. The other motorist was identified as James Douglas Casey II, 28, of Goodnight Street, Pikeville. No one was injured.
