6 people hurt
in county collisions
Six people were injured and damage was estimated at $38,600 in six recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*Two passengers were injured and damage was estimated at $7,500 in a one-vehicle wreck at 2:30 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 70 near Riverbend Road, the Highway Patrol said. Stan Fields, 32, of Durwood Drive and Tara Memmelaar, 22, of Arrowhead Circle, Snow Hill, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Their driver, Jesse Ray Daughtry, 19, of Twin Drive, was charged with speeding. The report said the driver rounded a curve and the sport utility vehicle ran off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 4 a.m. Sunday on Rosewood Road near Moss Hill Drive, the Highway Patrol said. The driver lost control of the auto in a left curve, and it crossed the center line, then ran off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned, the report said. The car, valued at $8,000, was registered to Byron N. George of Rosewood Road, the report said.
*Damage was estimated at $8,000 in a one-truck crash at 10:50 a.m. Thursday on Pecan Road near Arrington Bridge Road (N.C. 581), the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Gabriel Dean Whitfield, 50, of Colby Drive, was charged with exceeding a safe speed. Troopers said the truck ran off the right side, came back on the road out of control, got sideways, overturned on the road and rolled off the right side.
*A motorcyclist was injured in a crash at 6:29 p.m. Wednesday on Pikeville-Princeton Road, the Highway Patrol said. John Charles Aiuto, 37, of Parrish Drive, Pikeville, was treated, admitted and later released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was charged with reckless driving after the bike ran off the right side, overturned, slid out of control for 135 feet and stopped in a ditch. Aiuto said he had swerved to miss a deer. Damage was put at $3,500.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 10:56 a.m. Jan. 11 at N.C. 581 and Hardy Talton Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Bradly Shane Ward, 34, of Bailey, was charged with speeding. The driver said he had reached down to pick up his keys and the car ran off the right side, came back on the road, then ran off the right side again, struck a ditch and rolled over. The car was valued at $6,500.
*Three people were injured and damage was estimated at $5,100 in a two-vehicle collision at 5:25 p.m. Jan. 11 at Old Mount Olive and Outlaw roads, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Mercedes Rojae Price Jr., 16, of Edinborough Lane, Dudley, and her passenger, Xavier Skinner, 17, of Bea's Lane, Dudley, and the other driver, Robert Oral Millard, 53, of Emmaus Church Road, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Price was charged with a yield violation. The report said her eastbound car collided with Millard's southbound van.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*About $3,758 worth of dog food and medicine for cattle and dogs was stolen between Friday and Monday from Bartlett Milling Co. at 1006 N. George St., Goldsboro police said. The thief may have pried open a door to get inside, the report said.
*Thieves entered Willis Radiator and Muffler Service at 201 N. James St., pried open a cash drawer and stole $10, police said. They also removed a stereo from a car inside the building. The stereo, valued at $200, was owned by Jeff Charles of Goldsboro. Damage to the cash drawer was set at $50.
*A .25 automatic pistol and eight cans of beer were stolen between Friday and Monday after a door was forced open at a mobile home in the 100 block of Jenny Lane near Dudley, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Edward Earl Newsome, put a $105 value on his property. No damage estimate was listed.
Missing
A 16-year-old Goldsboro girl was reported missing Monday by relatives to Goldsboro police. Chicoda Reness Woods of 405 Lime St. was described as black, 5-feet-2 and 180 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion.
When she was seen last at 11:30 a.m. Monday, she was wearing blue jeans, a yellow coat and pink and white shoes. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
