4th Wing gets honor
Fliers from the 4th Fighter Wing at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base will provide a flyover during President George W. Bush's inauguration ceremony Thursday.
A base spokesman said a team from the Rocketeers, the 336th Fighter Squadron, will be the ones that roar over the crowd in their F-15E Strike Eagle jets.
Free tax help
Free tax counseling and simple income tax preparation for taxpayers with lower income, with special emphasis placed on people 60 and older, will be available from AARP Tax-Aide on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning on Feb. 2 and lasting through April 13.
The service will be offered at the Wayne County Public Library from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Assistance will be given for both federal and N.C. income tax returns.
Taxpayers must bring all necessary tax documents for tax year 2004 and copies of their 2003 income tax documents.
This year the Internal Revenue Service requires that all taxpayers bring a valid photo, such as a driver's license, for identification. Social Security cards or ITIN cards for spouse and dependents are also required.
Electronic filing is available.
Those wishing to have a refund directly deposited to a bank account must bring a checkbook or a voided check.
Igoe won't run
Bill Igoe says he's not going to seek re-election as Faison mayor this year.
In November, the mayor's seat and those of three town commissioners will come open. The mayor says he might seek one of the town commissioner seats. He hasn't heard what the three commissioners, J.E. Andrews, Curt Sheaffer and Ruby Hobbs, plan to do.
Igoe is 76 and "getting too old for this." He has been elected to one seat or the other for the town since 1962.
