The Goldsboro Fire Department answered 183 fires or service calls, including three major house fires, in December.

Fire Chief Bobby Greenfield said in his monthly report that the three major fires accounted for $6,400 in damages.

A fire on Dec. 13 to a vacant house at 515 E. Walnut St. remains under investigation by police.

Greenfield said firefighters took part in 344 hours of company training and 1,177 hours of individual training in December.

Department training was conducted in self-survival techniques, rapid intervention teams and in digital photography.

Company training was held in hydrant inspections, pre-planning, street skills, self-contained breathing apparatus, building construction, incident command, fire behavior, methamphetamine labs, roof ventilation, engine company drills, gas monitoring and standard operating guidelines.
