Man robbed
A Goldsboro man was robbed Monday night of about $100, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Martin Newsome, 75, told officers that a man entered his home on North John Street, put a silver handgun to his head, grabbed the money from a shirt pocket and fled.
The robber was described as being black, about 17 years old, 5-feet-11 and 140 pounds with a thin build and black eyes. He wore a black hooded jacket and blue jeans.
Embezzlement
A woman who claimed that she was robbed of a bank bag with receipts from a convenience store has been arrested and charged with felony embezzlement.
When Goldsboro police looked into the woman's story, they found that she had a large amount of money, Investigator Trey Ball said. As a result, Charleen Allen, 42, of Old Grantham Road was arrested. She was placed in the Wayne County in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond. Some money was recovered.
Ms. Allen had told police that someone had stolen the bank bag on Friday from her unlocked car after she had returned inside to the Spence Market at 900 N. Spence Ave. When she went back to her car, she said, a black man grabbed the bag and fled.
17 hurt in wrecks
Seventeen people were injured and damages were estimated at $102,300 in 12 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $13,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 11:05 a.m. Monday at East Ash Street and North Jefferson Avenue, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Carl Massengill, 74, of Sambo Lambert Road, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other driver was identified as Lenwood Earl Newsome, 71, of Cypress Drive.
*Two people were injured at 2:18 p.m. Sunday in a two-car accident in which neither car was damaged, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Meko Renee Harrison, 25, of Wallace, and her passenger, Edwina Artis, 31, of DuPont Circle, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other driver, Dommanik Vandale Coley, 23, of Argo Street, was charged with failure to reduce speed. Both drivers were going north on Old Mount Olive Road near Brewington Road.
*A motorcyclist from Goldsboro was injured in a wreck at 4:10 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 55 near Long Henry Grady Road, the Highway Patrol said. Matthew James Begin, 19, of Andrews Street was treated, admitted and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. He also was charged with reckless driving after the motorcycle ran off the left side and overturned. Damage was put at $3,000.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $10,000 in a two-car collision at 9:36 p.m. Friday on N.C. 111 near Daw Pate Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Ashley Lauren Chase, 20, of Forehand Road, Pikeville, and the other motorist, Patricia Ann Bogue, 62, and a passengers, and Patricia Lynn Bogue, 7 months, both of Bogue Road, Fremont, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Chase was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Ms. Bogue was charged with a child-restraint violation.
*A driver was injured and both vehicles were demolished in a collision at 2:50 p.m. Friday on N.C. 111 near Indian Springs Road, the Highway Patrol said. Oscar Store, 22, of Pineview Cemetery Road, Seven Springs, was released after emergency-room treatment. The other driver, Carlos Santevis Vick, 19, of Charles Street, was charged with reckless driving. The report said Vick, while passing, sideswiped Store's pickup truck. The car that Vick was driving ran off the right side, troopers said, and the pickup also ran off the right side, came back on the road and overturned off the left side. The vehicles were valued at $10,500. Store also was charged with an equipment violation.
*A pedestrian ran across Antioch Road at 5:25 p.m. Thursday, was struck by a passing car and knocked into a ditch, the Highway Patrol said. Artemeus Taylor, 11, of Rachel Drive was transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and later released, a spokeswoman said. The driver, English Brooke Worley, 24, of Kenly, was not charged, but her car sustained about $800 in damages.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $8,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 2:55 p.m. Thursday at Old Grantham and Lexington Drive roads, the Highway Patrol said. A passenger in one car, Joyce Gurganus, 76, of Kentucky Drive, and the other driver, Manuela Delois Wheeler, 29, of Devonshire Drive, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Gurganus' driver, George Edward Gurganus, 82, of Kentucky Drive was charged with a yield violation.
*A sport utility vehicle was demolished in a wreck at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday on Leonard Drive near New Hope Road, the Highway Patrol said. The SUV was registered to Rita Williams and Jeffrey Elton Atkinson of Hookerton. The SUV, valued at $8,000, had been reported stolen to Goldsboro police.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-car crash at 5:54 a.m. Wednesday at U.S. 13 and Saulston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Austin James Miller, 21, of North Spence Avenue was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other driver was listed as Joseph Harold Worrell, 78, of Wayne Memorial Drive.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $22,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 9:32 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. 70 and Beston Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Michael Stephen Parks, 22, and his passengers, Sonja Parks, 22, and Sarah Parks, 10 months, all of Knob Noster, Miss., were released after emergency-room treatment. A northbound driver, Amy Coker Peele, 34, of Free Gospel Road, Snow Hill, was charged with a yield violation. Parks was going west.
*Two people were injured and damages were put at $12,000 in a two-vehicle wreck at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. 70 and Ebenezer Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Melissa Marie Polard, 29, of Benson, and her passenger, Adrian Chavez, 21, of Peacock Lane, Kenly, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other motorist, Chance Nicholas Storts, 24, of Antioch Road, Pikeville, was charged with driving while impaired and a safe-movement violation. The report said Storts was making a left turn and his SUV collided with Ms. Polard's oncoming eastbound SUV.
*A driver was injured and damages were set at $9,500 in a two-vehicle, hit-and-run collision at 10:54 a.m. Dec. 14 on U.S. 117 near Country Club Road, the Highway Patrol said. Marion Wenner Harrell, 81, of Old Grantham Road was released after emergency-room treatment. Her car was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer and knocked off the road into the median, the report said. The big rig did not stop.
Fugitive nabbed,
says sheriff
A 32-year-old Goldsboro man wanted by New Jersey authorities for a probation violation was arrested Monday at a car dealership.
Richard Francis Williams Jr. of Armstead Avenue was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond. The probation violation resulted from burglary charges, officials said.
Williams was arrested by Wayne County sheriff's Sgt. Sherwood Daly and Deputy C.T. Arnold. New Jersey authorities confirmed that they will extradite Williams.
Break-ins
About $10,345 worth of property was stolen from a home in the 100 block of Meadowcrest Drive, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported.
The thief had damaged a door at Cortez McBennett's home in order to steal a computer system, 15 suits, 20 dress shirts, three leather trench coats, video-game equipment, two DVD players and a .45 caliber handgun. Damage was estimated at $350.
Deputies also are investigating these reports:
*A golf cart was stolen between Sunday and Monday from Southern Wayne Country Club, where a lock had been cut, deputies said. The cart was valued at $2,200.
*Forty Beanie Baby dolls, a compact disc player, a gold chain and personal papers were stolen between Dec. 7 and dawn today from a home in the 200 block of Everittsville Road, deputies said. The resident, Norman Baylorn, put a $945 value on the stolen property.
*Keys were stolen Monday after a window was smashed in a home in the 2100 block of N.C. 222 West, deputies said. A resident saw the thieves, then pursued them but lost them near the Wilson County line. The keys were valued at $25, and damage at the R.A. Goins home was set at $50.
Jeep fire
A Jeep Cherokee was destroyed by fire at Ferry Bridge Road, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Grantham firefighters put out the fire at about 12:30 a.m. today. Deputy Eric Robinson reported that the vehicle had been tagged by the Highway Patrol a week ago. The vehicle identification and registration numbers could not be determined.
Missing
Three teen-agers have been reported missing by relatives to Wayne County authorities
*Carlos Emmanuel King, 15, of 207-F Alpha Court was described as black, 5-feet-3 and 140 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. When he was seen last at noon Thursday, he was wearing blue jeans, sneakers and a black coat.
*Jessica Michelle Davis, 14, of 100 Buckson Drive was described as white, 5-feet-5 and 130 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. When she was seen last at 11:30 p.m. Monday, she was wearing khaki pants, a green sweater and a green hat.
*Britany Kayla Norvell, 14, of 108 Buckson Drive was described as white, 5-feet-5 and 150 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes. When she was seen last at 11:30 p.m., she was wearing a pink and brown shirt, beige jacket, blue jeans and a brown belt.
