Pair robs store
A convenience store was robbed before dawn today by an undetermined amount of money and three bottles of alcohol, according to a Goldsboro police report.
A clerk at The Pantry at 515 E. New Hope Road told police that a man and woman entered the store at about 3:20 a.m. The man took the woman's handgun and demanded money, and the woman grabbed the alcohol, valued at $9.57, police said.
They then asked the clerk for her car keys, but she said the car in the parking lot was not hers, the report said. The robbers ran away.
The man was described as black, 5-feet-8 and 120 pounds with a slim build. The woman was not described other than she was black.
Anyone with information on the holdup was asked to call police at 705-6527 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for a cash reward.
Hit with pipe
A man was struck on the head with a metal pipe before dawn today in the 900 block of South Slocumb Street, Goldsboro police said. The assailant fled.
David Jerome Hill, 32, of Courtyard Circle was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment and released, a spokeswoman said.
Hill reported that he heard someone shout his name at about 12:25 a.m., and when he turned around, he was assaulted, police said. The suspect was described as being black, in his 20s, 5-feet-9 and 160 pounds, and he wore a brown hat, black shirt and black pants.
Eight hurt in wrecks
Eight people were injured and damages were estimated at $29,800 in seven recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Two people were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 3:58 p.m. Monday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Lockhaven Drive, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Deborah Jean Ballance, 35, and her passenger, Matthew J. Ballance, 3, both of Pineview Cemetery Road, Seven Springs, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other motorist, Shannon Marie Porter, 20, of Bryant Street, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Damages were set at $2,600.
*A driver from Pikeville was injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 8:50 a.m. Monday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Lockhaven Drive, police said. Patsy Sherlyn Mozingo, 45, of East Vail Street was released after emergency-room treatment. She also was charged with a safe-movement violation. She had left a parking lot, the report said, and her sport utility vehicle collided with a northbound car driven by Wanda Carla Warrick, 40, of U.S. 13 South.
*A driver was hospitalized after his pickup truck sideswiped an oncoming car at 11:45 p.m. Monday at Royall and North Audubon avenues, police said. Gene David Reed, 58, of Wake Forest was released after emergency-room treatment for a pre-existing condition. The other driver was identified as Eric Decarlo Beard, 23, of Olivia Lane. Damages were put at $600.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured in a one-car wreck at 12:05 p.m. Sunday on Old Grantham Road near Falling Creek Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Demarlo Ontario Kornegay, 20, of Melodie Lane was released after emergency-room treatment. He also was charged with reckless driving after the car that he was operating ran off the right side, struck a ditch and a mail box, then careened off the left side and struck the other ditch. Damages were set at $5,100.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 3:05 p.m. Friday on U.S. 70 near Perkins Mill Road, the Highway Patrol said. Marlowe Tate, 31, of Adams Street was released after emergency-room treatment. The other driver, Frances Deborah Martin, 53, of Rhonda Lane, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision.
*A passenger was injured and damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 1:20 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 70 near N.C. 581, the Highway Patrol said. Evelyn Spence, 65, of District Heights, Md., was released after emergency-room treatment. She was riding with Jesse Lee Spence, 65, of District Heights, Md. The other driver, Fitzgerald Brunson, 45, of Smithfield, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Neuse River Shopping Center parking lot, the Highway Patrol said. Jorice Carter Redic, 44, of West Seymour Drive, was released after emergency-room treatment. She was making a left turn, the report said, and her car collided with a sport utility vehicle driven by Glendora Beatrice Hinton, 27, of Durham Lake Road, Dudley. No charges were filed. Damages were put at $4,500.
Firearms stolen
A .22 caliber handgun, a 20-gauge shotgun, a .22 rifle, a DVD player, jewelry and $100 were stolen Monday from a home in the 900 block of Corbett Hill Road, Wayne County sheriff's deputies said.
The thief had smashed a window to get inside, the report said. The resident, N.L. Cotton, estimated the value of the stolen property at $2,250. No damage estimate was reported.
Deputies also are investigating these reports:
*A DVD player, 40 DVD movies and a video-game system were stolen Monday after a window was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Hideaway Circle, deputies said. The resident, Cory L. Wooten, estimated the value of his stolen property at $500 and damage at $100.
*A DVD player and four videotapes were stolen Monday after a door was damaged at a home in the 200 block of Parkwood Drive, deputies said. The resident, A.L. Ellis, estimated the stolen property's value at $90 and damage at $100.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A diamond ring, other jewelry, a video camera, car speakers and video-game equipment were stolen Monday after a door was damaged at a home in the 800 block of Second Street, police said. The resident, M.A. Dail, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,570 and damage at $20.
*A stereo system with tower speakers was stolen between Sunday and Monday after a door was forced open at a mobile home used as storage in the 100 block of Carriage Road, police said. The owner, Mellisa G. Williams of Dudley, said the system was worth $3,000.
*A set of car rims was stolen between Sunday and Monday after a door to a shed was damaged in the 500 block of Atlantic Avenue, police said. The owner, Clyde E. Kirven of LaGrange, put a $800 value on the rims and set damage at $50.
*A set of golf clubs was stolen Monday from a carport in the 700 block of Pittman Street, police said. The resident, Charles L. Stevens, said the clubs were valued at $1,850.
*A chained blue Kymco scooter was stolen between Monday and dawn today from the 500 block of East Holly Street, police said. The owner, William Charles McAllister, said it was worth $2,000.
Burglary, forgery
A 24-year-old man was arrested Monday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with three felony offenses.
Andrew Jackson Parrish Sr. of West Hill Street was charged with burglary, forgery and uttering. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $19,000 secured bond.
Parrish was accused of breaking into a home on Old Smithfield Road on Nov. 28 and later forging and then passing a forged check Monday, detectives said. Detective Sgts. Tony Morris and Rick Farfour and Detective Robert Chunn said an investigation was continuing.
Missing
A 13-year-old girl was reported Monday by relatives to Goldsboro police. Ryanne Renee Dunford of 405 A St. was described as black, 5-feet-4 and 135 pounds with brown hair, green eyes and a light complexion.
When she was seen last at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, she was wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call police at 705-6527.
