City employees can collect for good suggestions

City employees can now get paid for good suggestions.
Several months ago Councilman Bob Waller suggested the idea of asking for employees' input on how to handle the city's trash problem.
Tasha Logan, assistant to the city manager, developed the program. At her suggestion, the council expanded the program to deal with other issues, as well as trash.
Recognition and awards are possible for employees who suggest ways to enhance city appearance, improve job performance or save money.
To qualify, a suggestion must set forth a constructive solution and be submitted on the employee suggestion form.
Department heads aren't eligible to participate.
The award includes recognition by the council, $100 cash and the opportunity to assist in implementing the plan. Awards can't be given if the employee's name is not listed on the form.
Suggestions won't be considered if they're a duplicate of one previously submitted, already in effect or expresses personal grievances. A committee consisting of a representative from the city personnel, finance and the city manager's offices will review suggestions monthly.
The committee will make recommendations to the Law and Finance Committee. The Law and Finance Committee will make a report to the council, and the council will recognize winning recipients.
Suggestions can be placed in locked boxes in the following areas: the General Services break room; the City Hall break room, the Fire and Police Complex foyer, the Recreation and Parks Department office, and the sewage treatment plant and the water treatment plant.
