Lights Up downtown
Goldsboro's Christmas lights will be turned on by Mayor Al King in a special "lights up" celebration Tuesday at 5 p.m.
All the decorative lights, including those on the holly trees on Center Street and the traffic circle magnolia tree, are turned on simultaneously.
The event, sponsored by the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp., offers a variety of activities including music, free horse-drawn trolley rides, a visit from Santa Claus. In addition, warm beverages and food from downtown vendors will be available.
The event takes place on the front steps of City Hall.
NAACP banquet
The Goldsboro Wayne County Branch of the NAACP will hold its annual banquet Saturday.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the Dillard Alumni Center on Poplar Street. For ticket data, call 778-8046 or 580-9935.
Manetta Stovall will be honored at the event for her many years of service in education, the community and church.
Mount Olive parade
MOUNT OLIVE -- State Reps. Louis Pate Jr. and Larry Bell will serve as grand marshals for the Mount Olive Christmas Parade, which is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. Lineup will be at 9 a.m.
The parade will start at the Mount Olive Shopping Center and proceed down Breazeale Avenue, turn left on Pollock Street and then left on Center Street and end at the Mount Olive Fire Department.
The parade is sponsored by the Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce, and assistance with the lineup is provided by the Mount Olive Jaycees.
