Miss Goldsboro pageant is Saturday

Nine Wayne County women will complete in the Miss Goldsboro Scholarship Pageant to be held Saturday in the Paramount Theater in downtown Goldsboro. The pageant will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 each.
The winner of the Miss Goldsboro Pageant will advance to the Miss North Carolina Scholarship Pageant to be held in June.
Marie Brooke Wiggins, a senior at Southern Wayne School, is the 17-year-old daughter of Douglas and Marie Wiggins of Mount Olive. Her community service platform is promoting childhood literacy in our community. She will be performing a jazz routine for her talent.
Cynthia Susan Potter is a senior at Goldsboro High School. She is the 18-year-old daughter of Cynthia Potter of Goldsboro. Her community service platform is domestic violence awareness and prevention. For her talent, she will present a dramatic monologue.
Lauren Marie Howell is the 19-year-old daughter of Timothy and Mary Howell of Goldsboro. She is a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Her community service platform is childhood asthma awareness. She will perform a tap routine for her talent.
Brand Michelle Phipps, a 17-year-old senior at Wayne Country Day School, is the daughter of Shannon Phipps of Dudley. Her community service platform is hospice care volunteerism. Brandy will perform a vocal selection for her talent.
Kandis Mary Weeks is the 17-year-old daughter of Neil and Mary Weeks of Goldsboro. She is a senior at Rosewood High School. Her community service platform is blood donation. She is performing a vocal selection for her talent.
Brittan Elizabeth Wheeler, a 19-year-old sophomore at Wayne Community College, is the daughter of Stephen and Jeanee Wheeler of Goldsboro. Her community service platform is promoting good health and positive body images among women. She will dance for her talent.
Hannah Daly Best is the daughter of Richard and Deane Best of Mount Olive. She is a senior at Southern Wayne High School. Her community service platform is Special Olympics. Her talent is dance.
Betsy Lee Overman, the 17-year-old daughter of David and Lorenda Overman, is a senior at Southern Wayne High School. Her community service platform is AG in the classroom. She will perform a vocal selection for her talent.
Ashley Kristen Barnes is the 21-year-old daughter of Jonathan and Marie Barnes of Goldsboro. She is a senior at East Carolina University. Her community service platform is fighting childhood obesity with dance education. She will perform a jazz routine for her talent.
The Miss Goldsboro Scholarship Pageant is the only Miss America Preliminary in Wayne County and because of donations by businesses and friends, it will be awarding $8,500 in cash education scholarships and over $4,600 in in-kind scholarships.
Miss Goldsboro 2005 will receive a $5,000 cash scholarship, a $2,000 in-kind scholarship from Mount Olive College, a $624 in-kind scholarship from Wayne Community College, and a $500 from Johnston Community College. She will also receive the official Miss America Preliminary crown and crown box, a $1,000 wardrobe allowance and gifts from local merchants.
