Crime Stoppers -- Tips lead to 8 arrests on felony charges

Eight fugitives, including a man wanted on numerous felony charges, have been arrested by authorities after anonymous calls to Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers.
The Crime Stoppers police coordinator, Sgt. Dot Ardes, told the agency's monthly board meeting that a probation violator also was arrested after a confidential call in September. Cash rewards of $1,830 will be paid to the callers for their information.
Mack M. "Buddy" Carter Jr., 45, of O'Berry Road, Mount Olive, was arrested Sept. 13 after his picture was included in a Crime of the Week article in the News-Argus.
Carter was wanted by Wayne County sheriff's detectives and Goldsboro police investigators on charges relating to break-ins at rental storage lockers.
Officers had received a tip that Carter had stored stolen property in a home at Webber's Trailer Park. Carter was not there, but Investigator Dale Foster obtained enough evidence to charge him with three felony counts each of breaking and entering and larceny, officers said.
Two other men, Larry Keith Daughtry, 44, of Webber Lane, Dudley, and Phillip Eugene Evans, 18, of Holloman Lane, Dudley, also were arrested and charged with three felony counts each of breaking and entering and larceny along with Carter.
Another caller told authorities that Carter could be at a home near Mount Olive. When deputies arrived, they arrested Carter and charged him with four felony counts of larceny, two felony counts of possession of stolen goods, one felony count of breaking and entering and resisting arrest.
During September, calls to Crime Stoppers enabled officers to seize $2,410 worth of drugs and $2,000 worth of stolen property.
Since the inception of Crime Stoppers in 1982, Executive Director Bill Troutman said anonymous calls have enabled officers to clear 6,621 cases with arrests, seize more than $7.8 million in drugs and recover more than $1.7 million in stolen property.
More than $387,000 in cash rewards also has been approved by the Crime Stoppers board in Wayne County.
Anyone with information on any crime in Wayne County was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000, if their information leads to arrests in felony cases.
