Howard to make acting debut

C. Rose Howard of Goldsboro will debut as a director Sunday for the play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf."
The play will be presented Sunday at 3:30 p.m. and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre on Center Street, Goldsboro. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. For reservations, call 736-9743 (p.m.) or 735-6420 (a.m.)
Ms. Howard grew up in Goldsboro and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in English and law. She has worked as a law secretary for six years for attorney Geoff Hulse.
She is a member of the African American Art Advocates, performing in plays and serving as the host of the annual poetry reading. She is a single parent of a daughter in college and a son in preschool.
The play she is directing is a series of poems that present social issues that affect women, such as abortion, rape and domestic violence. She has tried to enhance the piece with dramatic stage lighting and music.
