Man surrenders
in fatal stabbing
A 31-year-old Goldsboro man was stabbed fatally before dawn Saturday, and another man was arrested and charged with the crime, a Goldsboro police report said.
The victim was identified as Rudolph Guion Jr. of 1804 E. Ash St.
Michael Anthony Becton, 29, of Kinston surrendered to police about five hours later and was charged with voluntary manslaughter. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 secured bond.
Becton will have a first court appearance Monday to determine his legal representation.
Police Officer Jeremy Piner responded to a call at 1:10 a.m. Saturday of a possible stabbing at 1713 E. Holly St. He radioed for assistance from his supervisors.
Emergency medical personnel also arrived and determined that the victim had died.
Police later developed a suspect after interviewing witnesses and conducting a crime-scene investigation. Becton turned himself in to police at 6:15 a.m.
Investigator Neal Lynch led the investigation with assistance from A-shift officers, crime scene technicians and the State Bureau of Investigation.
83-year-old man
reported missing
An 83-year-old Goldsboro man has been reported missing by his son to Goldsboro police.
Johnnie Williams, who is known as the "Can Man," has not been seen since Aug. 30. He had lived at Hood's Trailer Park on South Slocumb Street. He has medical problems, police say.
Williams, who no longer drives, was known to ride his bicycle on Fridays to the bank to get money and to the Berkeley Station post office to get his mail. But police say the last time he did either was Aug. 27. He was seen last on Aug. 30 riding down Slocumb Street. He also likes to fish.
Police have checked several hospitals, interviewed Williams' friends but have no clues to his location.
Williams was described as black, 5-feet-6 and 140 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. He may be wearing tan pants, a dark coat, a dark hat and rubber boots.
Anyone with information on Williams' location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
Teen sentenced
in bank holdup
An 19-year-old Goldsboro man has been given a 12- to 15- month suspended prison sentence for robbing the New Century Bank at 425 N. Spence Ave.
Quentin Bryce Barnes of North George Street was charged with the May 21 armed bank robbery. But he pleaded guilty last week in Wayne County Superior Court to common-law robbery, a holdup without the use of a weapon.
Barnes was credited with 134 days in jail while he awaited his sentencing hearing. He also was placed on 24 months of supervised probation, including nine months of intensive probation, ordered to complete 48 hours of community service and to pay back the $2,240 that he stole and fined $250 and court costs.
Barnes was arrested May 24 after an anonymous call to Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers. He was picked up while walking near West Holly and North George streets.
A picture of the suspect, taken with the bank's surveillance video camera, had appeared in the May 23 issue of the News-Argus. The photo, police said, led to calls to Crime Stoppers.
Passenger shot
A young woman passenger in her boyfriend's car was shot Friday as they rode down the 100 block of Carriage Drive, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Jessica K. Lamp, 18, of Blackstone Drive was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where she was listed Saturday night in stable condition, a spokeswoman said. She could not describe the suspect.
The boyfriend and driver, Randy A. Johnson, 20, of Mount Olive, and two other young men passengers were not injured.
CDs stolen
A case with 200 music compact discs was stolen and a window was damaged early Saturday in a mobile home in the 100 block of Mike Lane, a Goldsboro police report said.
The resident, Dra-shaun O. Sanders, 24, told police that his former girlfriend came to the home at about 12:01 a.m., threw something at the window, breaking it and causing about $150 in damages. He said the CDs had been stolen after his motorcycle also had been damaged.
Police interviewed the woman outside of a home next to Sanders'. She contended that the CDs were hers. But police arrested and charged Tammy White Urbano, 24, of East Lockhaven Drive with assault, injury to real property, injury to personal property, second-degree trespass and resisting arrest. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $900 secured bond.
Three hurt in wreck
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $19,500 Friday in two traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*Three people were injured and both vehicles were demolished in a collision at 2:25 p.m. Friday at West Ash and North James streets, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Yollet Carrillo Reyes, 25, and her passengers, Oscar Reyes, 6, and Oswald Escudero, 5 months, all of Zion Church Road, Mount Olive, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Reyes was charged with a yield violation. The report said she was making a left turn and the sport utility vehicle that she was driving collided with an oncoming, eastbound car driven by Douglas Charles Raynor, 48, of South Alabama Avenue. The vehicles were valued at $7,000.
*Damages were estimated at $12,500 in a three-vehicle crash at 8:20 p.m. Friday at U.S. 70 East and East Ash Street Extension, police said. One driver, Wilbert Ennis Brunson, 50, of Sandstone Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other motorists were identified as John Ivey Amon Jr., 77, of Walnut Creek Drive and Salah-Eden Abdala Youssef, 37, of Hillcrest Drive.
Break-in
A 55-inch television and a computer were stolen between Wednesday and Friday from a home in the 100 block of Sedgefield Drive, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
The thief had damaged a window to get inside. The stolen property, valued at $1,400, was owned by Leamon Roger Palmer of Goldsboro. Damage was set at $50 to the home, owned by Bernadette Brown of Saco, Maine.
