Bicyclist hit by SUV
Three people were injured Thursday in two recent traffic collisions Goldsboro, police reported.
*A bicyclist was struck by a sport utility vehicle at 8:15 p.m. Thursday at Freeman and Greenleaf streets, police said. Shontaviya Renee Hines, 18, of North John Street was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released, a spokeswoman said. The driver, Marcus Antonio Bell, 17, of Mitchell Road, Dudley, drove away, but he was found later and charged with hit and run. The SUV sustained about $400 in damages.
*Two people were injured at 10:40 a.m. Thursday at Wayne Memorial and Lockhaven drives, police said. Lafayette Davis, 72, of N.C. 111 North, was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. His passenger, Thelma W. Davis, 72, of N.C. 111 North, was released after emergency-room treatment. James Douglas Driver, 56, of Parkwood Drive, was charged with a stoplight violation. Damages were set at $2,500.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A DVD player, DVD movies and a television were stolen Thursday from an apartment in the 400 block of North Carolina Street, Goldsboro police said. The thief had damaged a door to get inside. The resident, Paullette Champion, estimated the value of the stolen property at $900 and set damage at $100.
*An MTD riding lawnmower was stolen between Sept. 22 and Sept. 24 from a yard in the 100 block of West Main Street in Eureka, according to a sheriff's report filed today. The owner and resident, Keith Pender, said the mower was worth $1,200.
Boy sells gun
A 12-year-old boy has been charged with stealing his grandfather's handgun and then selling it to another person, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
The grandfather, Rodney Deaver, who lives at Dudley, reported that the firearm had been stolen Wednesday and he heard that his grandson had it. The grandson admitted later that he had sold the weapon to a man on Everittsville Road, the report said.
The boy was charged in a juvenile petition with two felonies, larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Pitt County Juvenile Detention Center in Greenville.
The .25-caliber handgun, valued at $90, was recovered, deputies said.
Kitchen fire
An overheated oven on Thursday caused about $200 in damages to a home at 705 Force Road, a Goldsboro fire official said.
The oven burned cabinets and a dryer in the one-floor, wood-frame home. The home, owned by Mary Thompson of Goldsboro, was valued at about $30,000.
"We never saw flames," said Fire Lt. John Morton. "All we had to do was to blow the smoke out."
Thirteen firefighters were summoned to the 6:18 p.m. call with three engines, a ladder truck and a command car.
Missing
A 40-year-old woman was reported missing Thursday night by relatives to Goldsboro police. Shirley Ruth Peek of 1313 Herring St. was described as white, 5-feet-5 and 105 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
When she was seen last at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, she was wearing a pale green shirt decorated with fish, black pants and brown shoes. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
