Bloodmobiles scheduled for October
Following is the October Bloodmobile schedule for the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross:
Oct. 7: Southern Wayne High School from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Oct. 8: Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Community Center from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Oct. 12: Red Cross chapter house, 600 N. George St., from 2 to 6:30 p.m. by appointment only by calling 735-7201.
Oct. 14: Rosewood High School from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Goldsboro city employees from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Oct. 15: Lowe's from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Oct. 16: Mays Chapel Church from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Oct. 20: Cherry Hospital from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Oct. 21: Red Cross chapter house, 600 N. George St., from 2 to 6:30 p.m. by appointment only by calling 735-7201 and Wayne Community College from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Oct. 22: Chevrolet-Cadillac of Goldsboro from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Oct. 25: Eastern Wayne High School from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Oct. 28: Goldsboro Milling Co. from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Ride for Recovery raises $411
Forty-four motorcycles, some carrying two riders, participated in the Eastpointe Ride for Recovery on Saturday in Goldsboro.
The event raised $411 to benefit nonprofit organizations that help substance-abuse patients and their families.
Rich Courliss led the riders on a route from Wayne County and into Duplin, Sampson and Lenoir counties. T-shirts from the event are still left and can be obtained for a donation by calling Cindy Howery at 587-0394.
Scouts spend night on carrier
Nahunta Scouts spent two nights on an aircraft carrier in mid-August with money they raised selling barbecue plates.
Scoutmaster Kay Howell and Cubmaster Thomas Earl Braswell went with the group of 13 boys and six adults from Nahunta Pack 18 and Nahunta Troop 18, sponsored by Nahunta Pork Center.
They slept two nights on the ship as part of their camping program aboard the World War II Aircraft Carrier Yorktown in Charleston Harbor. The troop became "shipmates" with other troops as they toured the aircraft carrier, submarine Clamagore, World War II destroyer Laffey and World War II Coast Guard cutter Ingham.
They ate morning and evening meals in the "Chief's Mess" on board the Yorktown. They also took a boat ride to Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor, where the Civil War began.
