Sculptures coming for art garden

Six pieces of sculpture by two East Carolina University professors and four graduate students will arrive Saturday for display in the Arts Council of Wayne County's garden.
Alice Strickland, executive director, told the Arts Council's board of directors Thursday that concrete slabs were being poured for the sculptures, and that the art work would be on loan for six months. After that, different pieces would be displayed on a rotating basis.
*In other business, it was announced that another decorated pig in the "When Pigs Fly" public art project and fund-raiser has been put on display. Decorated to look like a golfer, it was taken to the Walnut Creek Country Club where it was already getting a good response.
Two other pigs -- one decorated as Pippy Longstockings and another decorated in a patchwork design -- are ready to be delivered to Wayne Community College and Eureka.
Catherine Eagles will be making a map showing the locations of the "When Pigs Fly" sculptures.
*Mary Lee Flowers, Arts Council president, said that Jim's Signs has been hired to make signs for the outside of the art center. The standing concrete will be used for the signs and work may be completed in time for the gala on Oct. 30. The gala will bring the "When Pigs Fly" project to a conclusion.
*Also on Oct. 30 will be the Feast in the East. The Arts Council will sell barbecue plates for $6 apiece during the event. Project chairman Ven Faulk said that people who would prefer to carry their meals home with them will have a drive-through that will keep them from having to go through the fairgrounds.
