Daughter stabs father, police say
A man was stabbed by his daughter before dawn today after an argument over her late hours, a Goldsboro police report said.
Norris Levern Wilcox, 64, of North Center Street was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was being treated at mid-morning, a spokeswoman said.
The 30-year-old daughter, Bertha Wilcox, who lived with the father, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill while inflicting serious injury. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond.
The father told police that he opened his door at 3 a.m. for his daughter and then two then argued over her hours. He went back to bed but was awakened at about 4:10 a.m. when the woman was allegedly stabbing him, the report said.
Car, wire stolen
A thief stole a car, then took copper wire and fled from authorities before dawn today, according to reports filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
About $300 worth of copper wire was stolen from Hill's Electric at 1742 Rosewood Road, the report said.
When a Highway Patrol trooper and sheriff's deputies converged at about 1:30 a.m. at the business, the suspect fled into woods, leaving the wire and the car behind. He could not be found.
Deputies then checked the license tag and went to the owner's home on Autumn Winds Drive. The car's owner and resident, Kimberly Sue Hatem, reported that her black, two-door 1992 Honda had been stolen after 11:30 p.m. Thursday. She said she kept a spare key in the car.
Ms. Hatem said that on Wednesday she let a friend borrow the car. The man was stopped and charged with not having a driver's license. Ms. Hatem recovered the car at a convenience store.
After the break-in at the electric shop, the car was stored at a repair shop pending a further investigation, deputies said.
Man wanted
A 34-year-old man is wanted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office on multiple felony offenses.
Russell Stephen Ward, whose last known address was on Berryridge Drive near Pikeville, has been charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was described as white, 5-feet-9 and 140 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on his location was asked to call Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour at 731-1497 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
Gunshot hits car
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A gunshot shattered a car window Thursday in the 1700 block of North Slocumb Street, police said. The northbound driver, David James of Seven Springs, was not injured. But the car window sustained about $250 in damages.
*A television, a DVD player and nine DVD movies were stolen Wednesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 600 block of South Slocumb Street, police said. The resident, Anthony Hargrove, estimated the value of his stolen property at $660 and damage at $200.
*A television was stolen Thursday after a door was damaged at a home in the 900 block of North Madison Avenue, police said. The resident, Stephanie Wooten, said the TV was worth $200. Damage was set at $100.
*A video game and $10 was stolen Thursday after a window was smashed at a home in the 1600 block of Murphy Street, police said. The resident, F.D. Reid, put a $30 value on the game and estimated damage at $100.
Break-ins
Wayne County sheriff's deputies also are investigating these reports:
*A red 1991 Chevrolet S-10 pickup was stolen Thursday from the 700 block of Sandhill Drive, deputies said. The resident and owner, Douglas Michael Coker, said he was taking a shower while two women guests were in his home. When he finished, the women were gone and so was the truck, valued at $1,500.
*A 20-gauge shotgun was stolen Thursday from a front closet at a home in the 300 block of True Vine Road, deputies said. The thieves had damaged a door to get inside and may have been scared off by a dog after taking only the shotgun, valued at $50. Damage was put at $50.
Pedestrian injured
A pedestrian and a driver were injured Thursday in two traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*A pedestrian crossing West Walnut Street near Center Street at 4:32 p.m. Thursday was struck by a car, Goldsboro police said. Tabitha N. Williams, 30, of Stallings Street rolled up on the hood and windshield and then fell off. The woman driver stopped to check on the pedestrian who said she was all right, and then drove away. A witness took Ms. Williams to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where she was treated in the emergency room and released, a spokeswoman said. Damage to the hit-and-run car, a green late-model Toyota Camry, was listed at $250.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 4:20 p.m. Thursday at Central Heights Road and Hines Drive, police said. Preston B. Hudson Jr., 67, of Vinwood Avenue was released after emergency-room treatment. The other motorist, Delia W. Smith, 55, of Darryl Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were set at $3,500.
