Spay and neuter assistance
The Wayne County Humane Society will have its spay/neuter clinic on Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon at the Wayne County Public Library. The clinic is an application process to offer financial help to low- and fixed-income families. To apply, people need to bring proof of income.
Ride For Recovery
Motorcyclists will be out in full force Saturday for the Ride For Recovery.
It is a fund-raiser sponsored by Eastpointe mental health agency to benefit various nonprofit organizations that provide treatment and counseling to substance abuse patients and their families in Wayne, Duplin, Lenoir and Sampson counties. September is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
Registration will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Eastpointe, 100 S. James St., in Goldsboro.
At noon, riders will follow a route through the four counties with the ride ending back at Eastpointe.
There is a $5 registration fee. The first 205 riders to register will receive a free Ride For Recovery T-shirt.
There will be drinks, snacks and door prizes.
Motorcyclists don't have to be in recovery to participate in the fund-raiser.

New clinic date set
The Take Me Out To The Ballgame baseball clinic, sponsored by the For Children Council of Wayne County, that had been set for Sept. 18 had to be postponed due to rain.
It will now be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Eastern Carolina Athletic Park, followed by an awards luncheon at noon. George Whitfield will be the speaker.
The free clinic is open to boys and girls ages 6 through 14. Instructors will guide them through the fundamentals of baseball.
Members of the Goldsboro Optimist Club will conduct their Tri-Star Sports Clinic for the children. Participants will receive a free T-shirt, water bottle and baseball cards.
Various prizes will be given away.

Third finalist
The name of the third of 11 finalists in United Way's Fair Share Challenge has been drawn. It is Earl Lee Bryant Jr., an employee at Cooper-Standard Automotive.
To qualify for the nine other weekly drawings to be eligible to win a new truck from Goldsboro Chrysler Dodge Jeep, a donor must contribute his "fair share," which is one hour's pay per month or 1 percent of his annual salary to United Way of Wayne County.
The final drawing will be held Nov. 20 when each of the 11 finalists pick a key in the order that they qualified. The finalist whose key starts the truck will win.
Finalists must provide proof of a valid driver's license and automobile insurance and must be present at the final drawing.
Bloodmobile
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will have a Bloodmobile Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Spring Creek High School. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash.
