Murder charge
A man wanted since 2001 for a murder in Pennsylvania was arrested Thursday in Goldsboro.
Nicholas Hudson, 32, was arrested by three Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and six Goldsboro police investigators after a brief chase.
Officers began a stakeout Wednesday night of a home on Franklin Street, where Hudson was living. When they moved in at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, the suspect fled. He was captured about three blocks away on Mimosa Street.
Hudson was accused of murdering Daniel Cruz on Dec. 6, 2001, in Allentown, Pa. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail without bond to await extradition to Pennsylvania.
Property found
Goldsboro police and Wayne County sheriff's detectives have recovered property stolen from rental storage units and are asking the victims to identify it.
The property was stolen from units on Claridge Nursery Road, Riverbend Road, Berkeley Boulevard, New Hope Road, North William Street and South Harding Drive and in Mount Olive, officers said. Several arrests have been made, and more are possible.
Victims of these break-ins were asked to call police Investigator Dale Foster at 580-4217 or Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Shawn Harris at 731-1483 to identify their property.
Motorcyclist charged
A motorcyclist fleeing from Goldsboro police was injured before dawn today when he crashed in an open field, a police report said.
Stephen Patrick Whisenant, 36, of South Hillcrest Drive was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, a spokeswoman said. Officer Steven Powers saw a speeding motorcycle at 2:15 a.m. near East Ash Street and Berkeley Boulevard and tried to stop it, the report said. The driver fled, then turned into field behind the 100 block of South Berkeley Boulevard, lost control of the bike and was arrested.
Whisenant was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, driving while impaired, a stoplight violation, driving while his license was revoked, reckless driving and driving the wrong way on dual-lane road. He refused a breath-analysis test, the report said. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $3,000 secured bond.
Meanwhile, a driver was injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 at 3:09 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Drive and Mall Road, police said. Karinne K. Young of Renee Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with yield violation. The other driver was Grayson Edward Gillispie of Chase City, Va.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A record player, a stereo system, a cordless phone, a picture and a shower head were stolen from a home in the 100 block of Rose Court, sheriff's deputies said. The owner, Martha G. Lofton of Dudley, estimated the value of the stolen property at $820 and damage at $300.
*A John Deere lawn mower and tools were stolen after two doors were damaged at a home in the 1400 block of O'Berry Road, deputies said. The stolen property was valued at $2,140. Damage at the E.H. Grady home was put at $400.
*A black 2000 Honda motorcycle was stolen Thursday from the 300 block of Nelson Drive, Goldsboro police said. The owner and resident, Thomas J. Ostrander, said the bike was worth $7,000.
*A thief smashed a door and a door handle, inflicting about $1,050 in damages, in order to steal a $10 wallet from a car in the 100 block of Cassedale Drive, deputies said. The resident, Scott Cameron Newby, said the theft occurred between Wednesday and Thursday.
*A Dudley resident left an IBM laptop on his car Thursday, then test-drove another vehicle and returned to find the computer missing. William E. Bedford of Cobb Coley Lane said the laptop was worth $1,800.
*Two cameras were stolen after a car window was shattered in the 200 block of Kornegay Drive near Dudley, deputies said. The resident, Kimberly Gardner, put a $30 value on the cameras.
Shots hit homes, car
Three homes and a car have been damaged by gunshots, according to reports filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and Goldsboro police.
*Siding, molding and a bedroom wall were damaged before dawn today at a home in the 100 block of Gary Lane, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Jose Oscar Lopez, estimated damages at $400.
*Two doors were damaged between Wednesday night and Thursday morning at a home in the 200 block of Rifle Range Road, deputies said. The resident, R.S. Walske, set damages at $350.
*Exterior and interior walls and a window were damaged Thursday night at a home in the 900 block of Atlantic Avenue, police said. Damage was estimated at $180 at the E. Covington home.
*A car door was struck Thursday night near Royall Avenue and North Herman Street, police said. The driver, Marco Kelly, set damage at $150.
