Veterans' parade set
The immediate past commander of the national American Legion, Ray Smith of Benson, will speak during the second annual Princeton Veterans Day celebration.
Korean War veterans will be the special honored guests for the Nov. 6 program in downtown Princeton.
Ray Autry Sr. of Princeton, a Korean War veteran who earned the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Medal of Valor, will serve as the grand marshal for the parade, which starts at 2 p.m.
The celebration will begin at 9 a.m. with a chili cookoff, food and craft vendors, and entertainment. The parade will be followed by bandstand speakers, musical entertainment and a reception. Memorabilia will be displayed during the day.
The Princeton Lions Club will host a barbecue supper.
Veterans who have not registered for the Veterans' Roll of Honor may do so at the Princeton Barber Shop on Center Street or by calling the celebration organizer, Terri Sutton, at 936-3042.
Entry forms for the parade, vendors and chili cookoff may be picked up at the Princeton Barber Shop or by calling Mrs. Sutton.
The goal of the Princeton Veterans Day committee is to erect a memorial in Princeton. Committee members will accept donations.
Fair Share finalist
The name of the second of 11 finalists in United Way's Fair Share Challenge has been drawn. It is Tyris Johnson Broadhurst, an employee at Cooper-Standard Automotive.
To qualify for the nine other weekly drawings to be eligible to win a brand new truck from Goldsboro Chrysler Dodge Jeep, a donor must contribute his fair share, which is one hour's pay per month or 1 percent of his annual salary, to United Way of Wayne County.
The final drawing will be held Nov. 20 when the 11 finalists pick a key in the order that they qualified. The finalist whose key starts the truck will win.
Finalists must provide proof of a valid driver's license and automobile insurance, and must be present at the final drawing.
Dog wash canceled
The Wayne County Humane Society's dog wash, originally scheduled for Saturday at Pet Supplies Plus, has been canceled.
Bloodmobile
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a Bloodmobile on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at El-Bethel Assembly, 2308 N. William St. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash.
