Bloodmobile
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a Bloodmobile on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at Nahunta Friends Church. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash.
Fly the flag
Sept. 17 through Sept. 23 marks the celebration of the 217th Anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution.
The David Williams Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Goldsboro requests that everyone join in by flying American flags and that churches ring bells any time during the week or specifically at 4 p.m. on Sept. 17.
Sept. 11 remembrance
To mark the anniversary of Sept. 11, Southern Wayne High School will hold a remembrance ceremony Wednesday.
At 10 a.m., students will gather around the school's flagpole to reflect on the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the tragedy. Students will listen to the national anthem and hear remarks from the school's principal, Richard Sauls.
Wayne County sheriff's deputies, firefighters and emergency workers have been invited. The ceremony will end with the playing of taps and will last about 20 minutes. In case of rain, the event may be rescheduled.
Reception Sunday
An opening reception will be held for artist Brenda Behr Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. at the Arts Council of Wayne County, at the corner of Ash Street and Spence Avenue.
Hosts for the reception will be Ellen Derby Best and Margaret Griffin Delbridge.
"Goldsboro Unveiled," an exhibit of Ms. Behr's work, will be on view through Oct. 30.
Seven Springs parade
The Seven Springs Christmas parade will be at 3 p.m. on Nov. 20, and the town board is getting ready to check the lanterns and buy 1,200 candles that will decorate the town.
The town's 67 lanterns will be lit every weekend after the parade until the week of Christmas. That week, the town board plans to light them every night.
