Red Rose Tea celebration
WAGES Foster Grandparents and their cohorts across the nation will toast a cup of Red Rose tea on Friday at 10 a.m. in a symbolic tribute to past successes and future triumphs of the program.
The event, sponsored by the group's advisory council, will be held in the First African Baptist Church dining hall. The theme for this year's event is "Changing our community one volunteer at a time."
The event begins at 9:30 a.m. with the toast at 10 brought by Goldsboro Councilman Charles Williams. Linwood Williams will be the guest speaker, and the Charles B. Aycock Singers will provide special entertainment.
A light meal will also be served.
Lunch and Learn
The Mental Health Association in Wayne County will begin its fall series of "Lunch and Learn" seminars this month.
On Wednesday, Sept. 22, Dr. Kim Johnson of Cherry Hospital will speak about anxiety. The seminar will be from noon to 1 p.m. in the Wayne County public schools' central office, 2001 E. Royall Ave.
A box lunch will be provided. It will be served, beginning at 11:45 a.m.
The seminar is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Call the association at 734-3530 by Thursday, Sept. 16.
The association is a United Way agency.
Waste Industries pickup
Wayne County customers of Waste Industries will have their garbage picked up a day late this week. There will be no pick up on Monday, Labor Day. That means all pick ups will be pushed back one day.
Garbage pick up in the town of Mount Olive will also be moved back a day.
