Motel standoff
Goldsboro Police Chief Tim Bell said today that the motel standoff that took place on Aug. 26 is still in the hands of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The Sheriff's and Police departments assisted in the arrests at the Best Western Goldsboro Inn that resulted in five people being taken into custody by a slew of federal agents.
Federal agents contacted by the News-Argus have declined to comment further on the arrests or to reveal the people's identity.
Arson
A man has been charged with burning a vacant house that caught on fire several times on Indian Springs Road.
The Wayne County 911 Center received a call on Aug. 27 and Aug. 30 that a house on Indian Springs Road was on fire. Preliminary investigation by the Wayne County EMS and Wayne County sheriff's officers revealed the fire was set.
Officers said they also learned that someone had broken into the home, and several items had been stolen.
Chris Levon Taylor, 32, of Bladestone Drive in Pikeville, has been charged with three counts of breaking, entering and larceny, one count of possession of stolen property and two counts of second-degree arson.
His secured bond was set at $75,000. Detective Sergeant Shawn Harris and Detective Mike Reid were the investigating officers.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Studs were knocked out of a wall and a roof was torn off of a house under construction. The victim, Jackson Grading and Construction at the 500 block of Old Mount Olive Highway in Dudley, estimated the damage at $4,500.
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A digital camera was reported stolen Tuesday after it was removed from a bedroom in the 1100 block of Evergreen Avenue. The owner, Ryan Burton Devaul, estimated the property's value at $1,000.
*Credit cards were removed from a woman's purse and several transactions were made. The owner, Henrietta C. Best, estimated the amount of fraudulent charges at $1,098.45 and $10 for the two stolen cards.
Three hurt in wreck
Three people were injured in a collision at 10 a.m. Monday at the intersection of N.C. 55 and N.C. 903 near Seven Springs.
Trooper D.H. Kenan in the Kinston office of the state Highway Patrol said he charged Bryan Scott Flowers, 24, of Arrington Bridge Road, Seven Springs, with a stop sign violation after he ran the stop sign at the intersection and drove into the path of a vehicle driven by Betty Ward, 55, of Greenville. She had been going west on N.C. 55. He had been going south on N.C. 903.
Both drivers and Brandon Jones, 24, were taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital. Jones was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital, but he had not been listed in the directory Tuesday afternoon. Flowers is the son of Wayne County Commissioner Arnold Flowers.
