Gunshot victim
Jesse Lee Burns, 34, Crawford Street, was admitted to Wayne Memorial Hospital after a shooting Friday afternoon on the 1500 block of E. Elm Street.
According to police reports, Burns was walking when two black males drove past him in a vehicle and returned soon afterward. The males exited the car and one man punched him in the face and the other shot Burns in the top of his left leg and in the groin.
Burns managed to walk a short distance before he was able to call for police.
His condition was not available from hospital officials.
Accidents
Several citizens were charged with traffic violations as the result of accidents over the weekend.
*Chadi Rabih El-Aawar, 18, Helms Court, was charged with careless and reckless driving after an accident Friday afternoon on Sunburst Drive.
According to police reports, El-Aawar entered a parking lot at an unreasonable speed. The driver's side tires left the road and when the car struck a curb, was overturned. Three passengers were in the car but no injuries were reported. There was $6,000 worth of damage to the vehicle.
*On Friday at 5:17 p.m. at New Hope Road near Berkeley Boulevard, Thomasa Jones Hall, 49, Beaulaville, attempted to change lanes when Christopher Lee McFarland, 16, LaGrange, attempted to pass her on the right side where passing was not permitted, and a collision occurred. Damage to Ms. Hall's car was $2,500 and McFarland's car sustained $1,500 worth of damage. McFarland was charged with improper passing on the right.
*At 7 p.m. Friday night, Deborah Higgins, 36, Bryan Boulevard, attempted to turn left on W. Ash Street when another vehicle driven by Jeffrey Devon Williams, 19, E. Ash Street, came through an intersection and the two cars collided. A witness at the scene told police Williams had been driving at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.
Police charged Ms. Higgins with a safe movement violation and Williams with driving while license revoked and speeding. Damages to the vehicles were estimated at $800 each.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Winford Langston of Langston Construction reported $1,460 worth of lumber and building supplies taken from a construction site on O'Berry Road.
*Samantha Jo Johnston of Carla Ann Drive in Pikeville told police she had an argument on the phone Friday night with a man she used to date. The man later came to her home, pushed her and damaged her trailer as he left. She was advised to obtain a warrant.
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Carl Anthony Smith of W. Lockhaven Drive told police that when he went outside of his residence on Friday morning, he discovered his car was propped up on blocks and the tires and rims were missing. He said the rims were valued at $6,000 and the tires were worth $520.
*Charles Artis of Old Smithfield Road reported the theft of the wheels and tires from his vehicle while parked at Hamilton Funeral Home on S. James Street on Friday night. Estimated value of the items was $2,683.
*On the 700 block of N. Spence Avenue, a sliding glass door was reportedly damaged at a residence Friday night. Bayo Adebambo told police a DVD player, speaker, black leather bag, cell phone, and several DVD's were also taken. Estimated value of the items was $1,042.
*Maria Broadhurst of E. Holly Street reported the theft of a Playstation 2 game system and four games, valued at $310, from her home. A window was also reportedly broken on the back kitchen door, through which access to the residence was gained.
*Mandy Hines of Seven Springs reported the theft of her wallet on Friday morning. She said the incident occurred while she was in a computer lab at Wayne Community College and had left her purse unattended briefly. She said the wallet contained $350 in cash plus assorted personal papers and credit cards.
