Don't blame church
Officials of the Goldsboro Worship Center want it known that the church was not responsible for the big glob of white paint that was on the pavement in front of the church Thursday afternoon.
Custodian Billy Smith, who lives beside the church on New Hope Road, said the paint jobs on some passing cars, including some expensive ones, had been ruined when the cars splashed into the paint.
Smith said it came from a bucket that apparently fell off a truck, but that several motorists had called him or the church to find out if someone at the church was responsible.
When it fell, the top came off the bucket and the container rolled or bounced about 125 feet, spilling paint along the way.
Farm Service elections
The Wayne County Farm Service Agency is accepting nominations for candidates for committee elections.
The elections are for an area designated LAA-1, which includes Stoney Creek, Saulston, New Hope and Indian Springs. Farmers are encouraged to nominate their farm neighbors.
Nomination forms can be obtained from the Wayne County office and must be turned in no later than Sept. 3.
The county committee system helps shape nationwide programs that deal with commodity price support loans and payments, farmer loans, conservation programs, and farm disaster assistance.
Those eligible to participate in FSA programs may vote in committee elections and those eligible to vote can run for a county FSA committee seat.

Junior leaders sought
Applications are available at all high schools in the county and the Chamber of Commerce for the Junior Leadership Wayne County Program.
Participants will begin the program with an orientation session and will spend five days visiting sites throughout Wayne County.
Each day will focus on a different topic: local government, industry, health care, history and education, and agribusiness. Students will learn more about the county as well as be exposed to possible career opportunities.
Junior Leadership is open to all high school juniors in Wayne County. Applicants must have a solid "B" or above average and have demonstrated leadership in school or community activities.
The application deadline is Sept. 15. For more information, call 734-2241.
Campaign opener
Mark Hood will kick off his campaign for Wayne County commissioner with a rally next Thursday beginning at 7 p.m. at the Big Barn Theater, east of Grantham on U.S. 13.
Dinner will be $5 a plate. The event includes door prizes, music and a cake auction. The public is invited.
Hood, a Democrat, is challenging Commissioner Efton Sager in District 4
